Now a few days later we get the usual bit from the pratnership -
sameoldsobstory

Stephen Rumble, of the Casualty Reduction Partnership, said today: "This is the second time this device has been set alight. It is an expensive piece of kit.

"The speed limit along the A5 is 60mph and local people know how dangerous this junction is. There is a lot of through traffic .

"It really is disappointing that it should have been targeted again because it is only there for road safety and to deter people from speeding
He said it would cost in the region of £20,000 to repair the equipment.

Not the £70k we hear about in other parts of the country.Well done Warwickshire, must be looking to get a contract to replace all the others in the country, or did they buy a job lot when the price was low, and couldn't work out how to install them till now.
What he don't say is that these cameras are nasty, being set to catch HGV at 40, and as such can cause accidents, when cars find out that air brakes are that little bit better .

Now on the newspaper web page after this story is one about "Jail for cash machine raiders "

Is this paper putting similar stories together??

Anyone passing these two cameras know if the one burnt out in November is back yet - reason - spotted another press report of a crash at this junction, in the papers - not yet on the net .

Nothing in today's papers --normally we see a big outcry in the local about removing road safety - if nothing in tonight , i'll take a look tomorrow -only about a couple of miles from me.

Someone's obviously modifying a song - "toast a safety camera behind the old oak tree"

Botach: "Getting to be a ritual sort of thing this - perhaps some group are celebrating a seasonal ritual - in May ( in time for the longest day of the year)"

Don't know about up your way but down here in Essex with the lack of virgins and wise men I would imagine that the cameras are being torched as satanic sacrifices....

:D :D :D

Won't complain - should prove the signs warning of cameras/devices attached as a bluff - nice idea - "sacrifice a speed cam for easter etc", bit of a pagan ritual - the fire ritual

Sorry to say that the camera behind the tree is still in pristine condition, as of about half an hour ago.

Is it I going mad? Or is it that the quality of the road surface that has been replaced at red gate (at a large cost) is now more dangerous than that of the pervious?
I have been looking at photographs of the gatso before the new road surface.
Now I notice that a new warning sign has been put up just be fore the hidden gatso.
It is a warning triangle stating slippery road.
So have the knob heads replaced the old tarmac with slippery sub standard new stuf?
Is it now a more dangerous bit of road?
So now where drivers used to slam there breaks on when the camera is spotted. They now risk skidding out of control? Well that what I call real road safety.
Or have I gone mad?

Didn't notice any difference in road surface, but there are roadworks and 40 limit there at moment -possibly resurfacing ( thats Warks speak for surface dressing = dangerous surface)

However further down A5 -Leics area - on first DC after M69 island Leics Talivans are playing.

Since they replaced the road surface there is a new warning sign "slippery road surface"

A5 Talivans: yes one parks near the gate just after the Hinckley islands hotel. Think they must have had problems with prosecutions in court. As now they have put plastic camera signs on the approach (west bound) they have used plastic ties to secure them to the post (easy removed) on that note I think the Warwickshire lot are getting paranoid. They have put notices on the cameras (A46 Alcaster road) stating " protected and patrolled by Warwickshire Police" the lenses are often attacked on these two cameras that are in the middle of no where.

Definately getting paranoid - every camera i have seen in Nuneaton & Bedrock ,and the ones on the A5 have a sticker on them, probably since the fires on the A5

Just when all has gone quiet again - up pops this titbit.
Safety Measures will be introduced on a killer junction as a result of public demand.

The "KILLER JUNCTION" - none other than the A5/A444 redgate junction - WHY - the two cameras, one hidden behind a sign/tree have failed to reduce accidents.

This is the junction where one camera ( hidden behind a tree first ,then a sign ), torched twice , cheapskate measures and another camera, nicely placed to divert drivers attention from the junction have failed ( well if we need more drastic measures they have failed) to reduce accidents .
