Well...
At the moment I am pondering why the government and councils are using it as an excuse to tax us and WASTE energy, time and money on things which aren't needed (advisory cycle lanes, congestion humps, needless traffic lights, parking restrictions, etc.) and I am waiting for it to happen because to be honest I like to be warm.

I have a vehicle which does 40+mpg. Also £50 tax per year, so that's less money for the government to waste.
I have a 15 watt solar panel which is fun but 15 watts isn't a lot. If they were cheaper I might have more, I like the idea of being able to have power wherever and whenever. It is currently charging a battery which is used with my amateur radio stuff.

I've also experimented with running my old car on vegetable oil. Great smell.
But it's a lot of hassle (try getting vegetable oil cheap and in bulk) and I ended up with a lot of plastic bottles to deal with.

The house is run mostly with compact florescent light bulbs. Although it has been pointed out that the 'waste' from filament lamps is actually not waste at all (energy can't be created or destroyed?) it is in fact heat. Which is useful most of the time. In fact I got cold a few weeks ago and rather than turning the central heating on I turned on a 500 watt flood lamp.

I would like to know where you can go and get food which doesn't all come in plastic wrappers.

As a leading climate scientist and global warming protagonist said recently that there is nothing anyone can do on in individual basis that will have any effect on climate change whatsoever.

So lets not kid ouselves we can "save the planet". Just embrace the change...

I'm saving up for a TVR, I reckon that will help things along nicely (oh except that Mr Brown will make me pay more tax which will make the earth cooler, dam!)

What problem? Even if you're arrogant enough to presume that we can influence the world's climate, it has "inconveniently" not been warming for the past 8 years anyway - at least according to the weather satellites (no doubt someone will claim that they're American and therefore Bush has had them all reprogrammed to suit his political agenda)
If in the next few years the sun moves from its current high into a low as expected one wonders what all the eco-nutters are going to have us do to attempt to stop the ice moving back on in?

Oh and just to make sure we don't get covered in ice, I've recently purchased a nice, (relatively) high performance vehicle.

Also I don't waste fuel sitting at red traffic lights when there is blatantly nothing coming the other way. Like the Fleets Bridge Roundabout. (the clue is in the name ) Obviously wouldn't do this if there were any risk to myself or anyone else, and the penalty is the same as exceeding a speed limit.

Also I tend to time the approach to junctions so that I don't get there at the same time as someone else and have to stop for them.
So... look ahead, if it looks like you'll get there at the same time as someone else then you slow down early so they get there first. Sometimes you can speed up to get there before them, but that doesn't tend to work as often.
I'll always try to make sure that I don't cause lorries to stop, I'm sure they use a lot of fuel getting back up to speed.

I'm pretty sure there are people who want to believe that humans are causing global warming, because they want to believe that humans have any power over nature.

I'm going to buy a supercharged Mitsuzuki V-32 MegaDeathBeast SUV that does 0.03 mpg, or preferably a Chieftain tank, just to piss off the self-righteous tree-hugging eco-fascists.

On a more serious note, I am convinced that climate change is natural, and has been happening throughout the history of the world. Back in the 13th Century there were vineyards all over Britain, even in the North – the result of all those gas-guzzling farm carts and the activities of Plantagenet Airways, no doubt. A few hundred years later, the Thames froze.

In any case, even if you accept the idea that climate change is man-made, the UK contribution to so-called “global warming” is minuscule. It is, however, a good excuse for eco-freaks to try to turn the clock back to the 16th century and for a certain son of the manse to squeeze even more money out of us under the pretence of being “green”. A plague on both their houses!

I am going to re-read (Lord) Christopher Monkton's articles from the Telegraph ( from a couple of months back, I think)....I'm going to check out his references.....and I'm going to re-listen to the radio 4 dissection of the Stern 'report'.

Then I'm going to decide for myself who to believe........but I'm sure in advance that the conclusion will exclude tony and gordon!

Oh! And I'm going to write to the council to ask them why their recycling collections are exported to poison china and generally add to global pollution.

I wonder, how many more here also regard all this panic over burning fuel as more to do with the so called up and coming shortage of fossil fuel and the emerging "oil wars" of the next century rather than any so called "Global warming" scenario?......


P.S. Forgot!....

Include in this, the switch of industrial production from the West to the cheap labour East where there is no shortage of fossil fuel......

That's another thing!
If the fossil fuel is running out then we will stop using it.
Which will solve all problems caused by using fossil fuels.

We've started recycling as much as possible - there's a collection bank at my supermarket so its not really any trouble. Its actually quite amazing just how little we actually throw in the bin now. I drive a 48mpg car and when the weather's OK, a 53mpg bike. Our house has loft insulation and I try to avoid eating beans.

Oh, and I'll believe that mankind is having an effect on climate when someone NOT commissioned by the government tells me so.
