Those lorry drivers have really started something big.. Let's just hope this gains more and more momentum until the powers that be are forced to listen.

Yep and not before time

They, (the Gov), stand to make infinitely more, and quicker, by adding a few extra pence on fuel which of course we all use and need. (Even more money than from than scameras)

My friend just told me he heard on a radio program last night that it is being used to help fund the black hole which is the war.

Nooo, surely not?

Cheers Sixy. If I'd known earlier I'd have gone on it too.

Why do I always find out about these things after the event. I kind of want to participate. Not sure I'd be too welcome at a bike-focussed event though. ;)

If there's one coming up for cars though, sign me up please.

Actually, I thought it had already happened :? Did I just have, (another), senior moment? :)

Trust you to say the 19th Sixy, I'm taking Ms Tone to Wales. If I see Blunderstrom I'll kick him in the bollocks though ;) (Can I say that? Oh well, too late  )

A protest! Fantastic! When are we having one down south?

Only thing is, why are they still reporting that the "price of fuel" is the problem? It is not. It is the tax which is the problem!

Both petrol and diesel oils are taxed at 50.35 pence per litre. Then VAT is added on top of the whole thing.

So yesterday when fuel was £1.279/litre that is £0.5035/litre fuel tax, £0.1905/litre VAT and £0.5850 for the fuel. (including other taxes further down the fuel production line, and being paid for money which has already been taxed due to being earned, employers national insurance, etc.)

Fuel: 58.5p/litre, 45.74%
Tax: 69.4p/litre, 54.26%

I made a spreadsheet to calculate this.

Why 50.35? Why not just 50?

No need to PM Tone - it's well enough published.

Oh the irony - forced to drive at ridiculously low speeds on A-roads, then STOPPED for driving TOO slow on the motorway!!!

HOW did they pull them over without causing any further disruption to the flow of traffic?

Every day is World <Something> Day or National <Whogivesacrap> Awareness Day. The best solution is to just ignore them all.

Unless they give you a day off work!

The ones that give you a day off work tend to be at least 100 years old. It's a relatively recent phenomenon that any bugger can declare that today is National Everyone-give-Lum-£10 Day and now the calendar is full of the buggers.

Well my calendar isn't because I ignore them.

i have just updated the fuel protests thread then spotted this one :x

the protests ARE coming. 10th June, 14th June, 19th June, 19th July. some are bigger than others but they are all in the pipeline and to myknowledge, all are being approved by the relevant police forces. they are not necessarily organised by transaction but we are supporting all of them. if you do want to participate then get registered on the site and get involved. these are consumer protests, not trucker protests ie the aims are to reduce petrol and diesel, not just diesel or for essential user rebates!

Don't see what driving slowly along a motorway achieves, other than annoying a lot of random people. And gordon brown knows half the people caught in the tailback will despise the protesters far more than they despise him, because we don't really rally together in this country.

I dunno about that. Might have been true for the last protests, but with fuel prices now significantly higher (and with the price of just about every thing else being higher too), I think more and more people are getting sick enough of having less and less spare cash at the end of the week/month for them to be more supportive of anyone with the balls to stand up and have their say. Combine that with the growing general dissatisfaction for the current shower of intestinal debris in Westminster, and I don't think the Brown one will be sitting too comfortably right now... can't say I'm terribly sympathetic.
