Residents of one Manchester village are just seething

(Neal Snowdon rpeorts in yesterday's "MEN" - page two.

It seems that people living on Littlemore Road in Mottram (village near Hyde?) asked for the road to be re-surfaced as it leads to a SCHOOL and a riding club and a cycling club..

But Tamesside jobs :censored: Council "Leader" Roy Oldham believes the DEEP craters ( and - there is a photo - these are abysses and black holes are worth keeping because "they are free speed humps! :x :x :furious: :banghead: :?  and he claims drivers use this road as a short cut in the rush hour and are not locals.

Oh - so locals suffer then ... and why has it become a rat run? (Have no idea as do not know the area - but maybe someone knows the area?)

Residents say it is dangerous and they have put up with this for 20 years so far. Filling in the holes is not working and cars are swerving all over the place to avoid these sheer drops.

The villagers - the ones who live on the road on which the Council Leader does not live - say the road is used to get to the local school and kids cycling to school have fallen off their bikes.... there are a lot of horse riders as well - plus deliveries of supplies to the local stables and farms - including livestock.

The narrow road with tight bends is known locally ans THE MUDD and runs parallel to the main road from Broadbottom to Mottram

Hmm ... road engineers... hmmm.... yep about right ... .
Jobworthy Council Twit who claims to be a road engineer which figures! wrote:

We are not doing any work to this as we want to deter motorists We are putting up a sign saying it is not suitable for cars and we are imposing a 20 mph speed limit

:banghead: So - 20 mph - yep solves it... why not add a couple of scams.. as well - we will really help kids who fall off bikes and hit heads that way!

Apparently there are plans to build a by-pass to ease congestion in the area - but the inquiry is not due until October

So - should we not repair roads then and have total carnage for all?

I really wonder how these people get selected and elected....

Saw a similar article in MCN a couple of months ago, except it was a fairly main road that had developed pot-holes. Local councillor said "they'll slow the boy-racers down". Then, motorcycling MP Lembit Opik stepped in and pointed out that, in the event of a motorcyclist coming off due to a pothole, the council could face damages/bill/fine running into seven figures, plus someone going down on a charge of criminal negligence.
Road repairs team turn up about 5 seconds later.

It's probably become a rat run because of the excessive traffic calming they have applied to Broadbottom road which is the main route parallel to Littlemoor road.

It was never in very good condition, but when I lived in the area it was hardly ever used because the main route was so much easier and quicker.

20MPH! I'm sure it used to be a NSL as there are only a few farms/houses near the ends of the road and the majority is a country lane. Although it has been about 15 years since I drove that road so it could be a huge housing estate by now.

The bypass they are planning will do nothing for Littlemoor road, it is to ease the east/west congestion at Mottram traffic lights caused by excessive house building in Glossop and the M1 link road that has increased the traffic over the Woodhead pass.

Yes, it's terrible - a 20 mph limit and a battery of various types of humps on the main road through the village. Image

Sounds like its time they started to sue the council for damage to cars, bike accidents etc. That should focus their attention.

Hi everyone

After Friday's manchester evening news (Roy Oldham) and receiving a letter from the government ombudsman who i pursuaded to investigate the inspection regime on tameside roads (i know it is roads everywhere) and received a reply back saying tameside convinced them that they had improved their roads, i was getting to the end of my tether.

i lost my son through neglect off the roads when his scooter hit a pothole and i had began to start losing my fight. today i have received many emails of people about the comment off Roy Oldham and asking me is this really in the same council where your son lost his life through a pothole?

I have my fight back and feel now as strong as ever.

please sign my petition for safer roads and better road conditions (due to poor road maintenance)

http://www.ethical-business.com/?sect=detail&pet=2399

Bringing all drivers/riders together

Please look at my son's webite
You would not believe the cover up by Tameside, who still will not admit responsibility

Thank you
Roseanne Kay

The first post says it was in the Manchester Evening News on page 2. Not sure about the national papers. :)

Thank you very much

Need to open my eyes

Just so angry and shocked with that ignorant and arrogant man who thinks he can play god with peoples lives (Roy Oldham)

I was hoping if it was in a national paper then i could tell them about my son, tried so hard to get his story heard but most of the media have told me because the issue is against the council they are scared of being sued.

Thanks for that
Callum's mum

I have to say that it is this kind of treatment of the roads that ahs made me give up my nice, congestion friendly motorcycle and buy an 18 foot long trike! I have also had to give up my enviromentaly friendly a class merc and buy a gas guzzling 4x4 as it's the only thing that can get around on british roads without fear of damage.
running costs will cancel each other out.

Exactly,
We have had to get rid of our motorcylce because of my two youngest children being so frightened about us going out on it and never coming back!

i also have a 4x4 because of the state of the roads i am now scared of letting my two youngest in anything smaller.

I just wish my son had been in a 4x4 he may have had a chance (but i know wishing will not bring him back, i have been there and tried to swap places)

Where has are freedom gone ????

Some of the Nationals do look to the regionals for a "scoop". Why not contact the "MEN" and tell them about your petition as well.

Thanks Mad Moggie
apparently it was also in the daily mail. i have emailed the daily mail but i have not heard anything. Although to me this is very raw and like yesterday i know that it is also classed as old news now.

Last week a local newspaper had expressed my horrors about what roy oldham had said about potholes, it was a good write up apart from missing out a few things i had said against him.roy oldham was trying to get out of what he said about potholes, he did not answer but tameside representitives answered on his behalf (think he has said enough)

I was quite proud of the article, i am scared of nobody or nothing now

Thanks again Callum's mum

if anybody as not signed the petition please do so on
www.4callum.com , i am only 4 signitures away now from Tameside's "save our metrolink"

Hi Callum's mum. You should be only 3 away now!

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss but I hope you win this battle to make things better.

I think that what the Council have overlooked is that speed humps are pretty prominent and have signs nearby advising motorists of their presence. They are also designed so you can't (easily) swerve round them and they don't damage tyres, wheels, suspension components etc. if taken at a sensible speed and their height is limited by law.

Pot holes on the other hand, are much more random, tend to have sharp edges, change their profile frequently and don't come with signs. (they also don't need to comply with any regulations so they can be as deep or as shallow as they like. You never know quite what you're going to get - especially if they're full of water! I used to drive along the dock road in Liverpool years ago and that was always pretty bad for potholes. After one particularly nasty one, I found an "egg" in the sidewall of the tyre that hit it. This is where the internal reinforcements of the tyre break down and the sidewall becomes weak. they are not alwys easy to spot (can be on the inside edge for a start!) but they can lead to "blow-outs" at some point in the future - usually at high speeds!

Thank you mole
Cllr Oldham is head of Tameside council, what hope have we got?

At least with all the complaints he has received he will hopefully think things through next time. next year tameside will be spending £120,000 on Tameside in bloom while the highways will be £88,000 short on improvements they need to make

I don't know much about other councils but tameside care only about their image and receiving awards for "flowers" and "IT" skills

It makes me so mad, my son had the best education he could have had but it did not get him very far when the state of the roads let him down

sorry if i am going on but i really appreciate your support

Callum's mum

After what you've been through I guess you're entitled to!

Oddly enough I've driven through Tameside a fair few times - I used to live in Worsley and my boss used to live in Greenfield! Never really thought of it as a strong contender for the Britain in Bloom contest though!

Cllr Oldham as now decided to resurface the road in question and increased spending to their road maintenance

A small step but he did not have much choice, now tameside are getting stick form ex-united player Carlo Sartori
