Following complaints it has been necessary to remove the thread called:

"PCSO bluecaps and Roadside Laser..."

Sorry folks, but if we get too many derogatory comments, that's what we have to do.

The real answer for everyone is to keep the debating polite and avoid personal attacks. If 'the few' spoil it for 'the many' then we'll have to deal with 'the few' individually.

Surely it would be better to delete the content of the offending posts rather than deleting the whole thread?

Did I say 'delete'? It's presently in a private holding area.

I did look at editing individual posts, but frankly it's far too complex and far too time consuming.

Semantics Paul?

It isn't visible. I can't look at it. To all intents and purposes it's been deleted, unless you have any intention of reinstating it at a later date?

Looking at the number of PCSO posts recently(and it bothers me why) - i ask why --- our PC posters did not feel the need ( quality not quantiy always has been there motto)- UNLESS the PCSO fraternity feel the need to go where no PC has gone before

It appeared to just turn into a slagging match, we didn’t appear to establish anything for Honestone and the legality of civilians manning the speed equipment.

I've had another very quick galnce through it.

Not now, but hopefully at the weekend, I'll have a go at distilling a little synopsis from it and summarising my take of the salient points from the posts. I will do this hopefully without adding any colour of my own..

I know it'd be a PITA, but perhaps you could just delete the insults and leave the rest of the content alone? IMO, there are posts there which don't have much in the way of actual content, but that fact in itself can tell a story.

I appreciate that the last page will just say "content deleted"; "content deleted"; "content deleted" but that just validates the decision to lock the thread. :)

That would be great, thanks Roger.

That's probably what it will look like, but rather than lots of commands of delete are you sure yes, I'll cut and paste the good stuff with appropriate credits - and any paraphrasing will be solely to eliminate ad hominems and gratuitous insults. Humour - at anyone's expense - where ligthearted - will be left if at all possible.

The other side effect to this of course is that retrospective editing by the originators of the quotes I extract will not be possible except by PMing me. Tough

And when the monkeys are in charge of the monkey house ,we attract more monkeys because we pay peanuts .

Look at our road safety policy - not doing a lot for road safety - but it's making loadsa money, employing hundreds and getting the right publicity.
Our policing policy -- thousands more out there - woops - they can only target crapy dogs and cyclists - who care - they're visible and we can use them as publicity.
Motorway policy - no one notices the reduction in SKILLED motorway police officers - they only see the idiots in hi vis flapping their arms in trucks looking like some breakdown service --
Estates - we used to have Community beat officers ---properly trained Police Constables walking around - respected by all ---now we get two PCSO / AND OR an estate warden - crapping dogs watch out ----cyclists - are your lights working?? ------yobs /druggies --don't worry - if they look at you the wrong way some lawyer will sue for injuries.

How long before the honest Joe Public living on a council estate starts to form vigilante groups ( the SCP have given the precedent with speed watch) and start to drive out the yobs with their cans etc somewhere else?????, before these yobs drive them out

What a ridicules comment.

First off, a Traffic Police Officer is only as experienced as the training and time allows.
Therefore, a Civilian Traffic Officer receives the same training as the Police Officer, relating to the powers they have and the same experience as time allows.

Example, Traffic Cop, been in the Job for a year.
Civilian Traffic Officer been in for three years.

Who’s to say the Police Officer is more experienced on the road or able to assist you?

And as for PCSOs, well you obviously have no idea what they can do, the PCSOs I work with do a hell of a lot more than dog crap and bike tickets.

You’ve obviously been either misinformed or have no idea what they can do.
I work with them as a Special Constable and have first hand knowledge on the matter.

May I ask where your knowledge comes from?

Mike welcome,
Youv'e arrived after the fight is over this is the Post (hey pun) Mortem.
The main point of the argument was, where in legislation is the power of a Constable to form 'prior opinion' of speed able to be bestowed on a civilian PCSO.
Please don't answer me here, but,
When/if the thread re-opens your views would be most welcome.
fatboytim

ps it got a bit 'heated' hence the thread is 'on ice'

The whittling down to a semblence of normality is taking longer than I thought, principally due to work commitments and it being a lower priority task. I will finish it some time though.

Hm! just seen the Kent Police Advert for PCSO's - up to £22,384 p.a.; Child Care Vouchers, and, to cap it, a vandal free playground! It would appear that these PCSO's can put their Kids in care whilst they play on the Vandal free playground!!! Is this time for a a change - get up to £22,384 for doing sod all!

I‘ve obviously miss a whole chunk of text here.
I don’t know anything about the prior opinions, so I’ll refrain from commenting.
I haven’t really done that much roads policing.

PCSOs get paid different amounts in different forces, I know Police Officer in London are on around 30,000 a year after probation so it’s still a lot less.

Most of the PCSOs I have encountered have been decent professional type people, wanting to do some good and get a good wage for it.

You get what you pay for.

Mike you said,
"You get what you pay for."

As a special you can't really mean that!

I personally thank you for spending your spare time, policing the streets.

you also said,
"I don’t know anything about the prior opinions, so I’ll refrain from commenting.
I haven’t really done that much roads policing. "

You obviously have the intelligence and discretion to admit to what you don't know, but I'm sure you could find someone does know, if you came across a 'situation' on your beat.

The PCSO continued to state he had the powers of a constable, and quoting irrelevant legislation to try an prove it.
Basically he was saying a Chief Constable can bestow any powers of a constable on a member of the public ( like a western sheriff appointing deputies).
Just out of interest do you know if PCSO's attest before a magistrate.
