Ok I'll open the bidding as it does seem to have been an interesting week on bbc breakfast even if i've usually left the house by then.. Should helmets be compulsory? Probably not, but then I'd never consider getting on a bike without one. Should high-vis gear be used in daytime? Sure, if you want t...

So..... was the problem that you had to share the road with them and have your progress impeded (I presume temporarily) ?
or that they had headphones in ?

"We share the road with many different road users, some more vulnerable than others." :headbash: And only today, I had to drive at c-r-a-w-l speed behind a stupid cyclist who was totally oblivious that there was a car behind him. The reason he was oblivious was because he was wearing head...

I think the conclusion is that the data sucks. I only have 1 sec resolution at best and a heavily filtered speed measurement.

And yes I use both brakes
Mostly the front as the rear was at the point of locking.

Ed- once you've got the dry data ,try a wet version. Lots of years, old bike, but in my experience brake blocks on metal rims don't like the wet. Depends on the aim of the exercise really.... car stopping distances are quoted in the dry right ? And manufacturers / tyre company performance f...

Just as an aside (sorry for the thread drift) does anyone have any accurate figures for stopping distance in the dry from (say) 20 or 30 MPH for a pushbike? An "average" road one would be nice, but just to get us in the ball park, any pushbike at all, with any kind of brakes. Just curious...

and the fine is seen as a payment for not wearing a helmet, which frankly I'm not sure I would given the heat out there in some parts! Still reads to me as "I'm not sure I would wear a helmet out there, given the heat in some parts", but maybe weepy will be along soon to clarify? Still do...

Wow, did I read that correctly?

Weepy admits to breaking the law AND causing un=necessary danger to himself...... :o

try again.. you clearly read it deliberately incorrectly.

Thanks, always interesting to read. The camera cost enough that I don't plan on getting a rear facing one just yet! My honest comments are : I liked the circle back to ensure drivers had a good chance to observe you and see that you were going to rejoin. More for my benefit than theirs, sometimes it...

I am (thankfully) fine, although my phone also came off badly so i had a 2mile walk home with concussion risk & possible broken wrist. (gave me justification to upgrade my garmin so it now links by bluetooth to my phone and allows my to share my position with the wife when i'm out riding, so at ...

The guy in the video is less than 6ft behind the lorry, he wouldn't even realise the lorry had started braking until they were shovelling earth on him. Not defending the chap just trying to bring some perspective. Clearly this is not a frequent occurence otherwise the video wouldn't be remarkable. ...

So which is more likely to result in a KSI: a 2 5ton bus tailgating a cyclist or a 1/10 ton cyclist tailgating a lorry? Answers on a postcard please. At least in the second situation the cyclist is in control whereas in the first he is being intimidated. Tend to agree there... but then you've falle...

Related to dash cams thread I have, mostly for my own geeky amusement, bought a camera for my bike. Although I quite like the idea of having the first & last 20mins of a journey recorded as this will be the highest risk urban bit. Not as big fan of helmet mounts due to extra weight & crash r...

Yep ed_m the camera presence is almost just as bad, couldn't agree more, as it still demands the attention and thinking process from the traveler and thus a major distraction.

Just wondering if i can tell which ones have been done.... maybe they'll clean the algae off the yellow backing?

I'm actually really pleased my new car doesn't have sat-nav, on the old car i used it for almost every journey (with the sound off) mostly for the traffic warnings. I had set the map to be always North up so I could at least keep my bearings when looking at it. I have a good sense of direction and a...

and the first video where a bus driver purposely hassles the cyclist & then drives into the back of them ? no context as to why the cyclist is dawdling, traffic looks busy so probably not gonna get too far. ya gonna post on the other user groups for the dumb motorcyclist & driver videos on t...

Was an interview on R4 earlier which i guess was triggered by this, neither side came over too well tbh. I've worn a helmet for almost as long as i've been cycling on the road (20+years), it's second nature. For the first time a few weeks ago I needed it, the consequences of the impact without don't...

I like the way the truck driver just casually coasts to a stop & pulls to the hard shoulder

All ended okay in that case, if the truck driver had braked or steered sharply the car most likely would have carried on in the direction it was pointing....
