The AA make £2M a year from running Speed Awareness Courses.
They have a vested interest in retaining speed cameras. Makes sense that they wish to keep them!
Others too receive funds too from the Speed Camera business.

I think that the £2million may be an underestimate. An FOI to North Wales Police (2010/311) shows that in 2009/10 almost 33,000 courses at £60 each were offered just to drivers exceeding the 30mph limit, so that is £2million income from one police force and there are about 38 forces offering these courses. Incidentally, NWP received received £551,983 back from AA Drive-Tech to cover its costs of £223, 787. So NWP made a profit of about £330,000. This year's estimate is a profit of £390,000!

I would be interested in any sources of material or links etc. if you can furnish me with them. I was commenting on the data obtained by MCN, although that figure has been around for a year or more, so it is possible that it is a little out of date. I agree that courses are being looked at esp by Thames Valley to widen the 'entrance acceptance' as it were!
The treasury gets the fine funds and the course fund are retained by the partnerships and organising bodies, hence why one may assume that they wish to more are to attend and to increase the (short) course charge too, no doubt.

However some people choose to take the points and then some cases are dismissed and some go to Court.

The money from fines and fixed penalties goes to the treasury. The Partnerships get Road Safety grants to operate the cameras - I have had this confirmed by Freedom of Information requests. The police keep any profit from money that is given to them by the course providers; in North Wales that is AADriveTech. What, I think, is going to happen is that the police will increase the speed zone for courses, say from 39mph to 42mph in a 30mph zone. They will increase the cost of courses from, say £70 to £100, and use the increased 'profit' from the greater number of courses to offset the abolition or reduction in the road safety grant.

I fully expect this to start happening very soon - and as I said I am sure we will see an increase in courses allowed and timeframe intervals reduced.

Profit????
Are you sure you have that right?
Profit is what is left after costs are considered. If you are going to have a go at saying how a profit is made make your attempt a minimum of "half-arsed" because this attempt doesn't even make incompetent.
It does make a goog headline for idiots to chew on though.

BINGO!

Those courses aren't exactly cheap for the effort expended; and there are usually plenty of attendees per course, so where are all those 'costs' going?

Since you always profess to know more than most of us on here -why don't you give us some pointers .
The costs -well they possibly learnt from the past masters at extracting costs(SCP) .The balance sheets we all saw in the past showed more than a touch of culinary skills .
