1) We challenged the government to reduce speed camera fines down to £5. This would have proved that they were not installing cameras simply for the money.
Location: (Safe Speed Main Page)
Date issued: 2001
Response: none

2) We challenged all visitors to the web site to provide data or research supporting the idea that a significant proportion of road accidents were caused by vehicles exceeding a speed limit.
Location: (Safe Speed Front Page)
Date issued: 30th September 2002
Name: "Statistics Challenge"
Response: useless

3) We challenged all visitors to the web site to provide data or research supporting the idea that "speed cameras save lives".
Location: (Safe Speed Front Page)
Date issued: 18th June 2003
Name: "Statistics Challenge II"
Response: useless

4) We issued an open challenge to speed camera proponents to meet us for a public debate.
Location: (Safe Speed Press release PR104)
Date issued: 17th December 2003
Added to web site: 27th January 2004
Name: "Safe Speed demands hard facts in road safety and issues a serious challenge"
Response: nil
Distribution: 700+ Journalists and editors connected with motoring issues

In addition to these public challenges, we have also challenged a number of key officials to answer questions about road safety in the UK in writing. See the "Letters" links from "Quick Navigation" on the (Safe Speed Front Page) Not one of these published letters has received a satisfactory response.

For those of you that might not have realised, it was this page (and preceding PR) that gave rise to the Radio 4 Today Programme tribunal that in turn gave rise to the Stone Report.

As I said in a msg. to one of your other forums about speed cameras and traffic calming measures never mind what the "Camera Manager" says speed humps and road chicanes in built up areas slow traffic a lot quicker and traffic stays slower longer than with SPEED CAMERAS but as I said THEY DON,T GENERATE REVENUE but speed cameras do!!!!!!!!

If this is about safety then safety MUST TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER REVENUE
Try getting that through to the speed camera zealots!!!!!!!
