NUNEATON and Bedworth has landed a massive windfall to help overhaul its ailing transport structure.
A total of £1.2 million is to be spent on roads and footpaths and measures aimed at reducing accidents in the borough over the next three years.
Potholes will be mended, surfaces flattened, pavements made safer and some accident blackspots targeted.
The money has been allocated by Warwickshire County Council's cabinet as part of a £2 million a year capital programme for highway maintenance until 2014-2015.
Each area of the county will receive £400,000 for the next three years and Nuneaton and Bedworth has already agreed where its allocation for 2012-2013 will go.
More than £120,000 has been earmarked for the structural maintenance of the borough's footways and £108,500 for the structural maintenance of the carriageways.
Another £100,000 has been put aside to be spent on casualty reduction schemes over the next 12 months.
Residents of Nuneaton and Bedworth are to have their say as to where the money for the various transport projects is to be spent.
Councillor Peter Butlin, cabinet member for transport at Shire Hall, said: "The allocation has been ring-fenced for the next three years and will enable local people through local meetings to decide where money should be spent in their localities."
He added: "£400,000 a year is a very considerable sum that will enable us to make a difference in areas that residents have identified as their priorities."
Cllr Butlin said the county council's aim is to have the work completed by the end of each financial year.
