A crash which led to the deaths of five people on the A595 at Moota was caused by one driver who was under the influence of alcohol, cocaine and a substitute for ecstasy. Original story here:http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/cumbria/7352372.stm

After being seen driving erratically and at speed towards Carlisle, the 23 year old driver Andrew Pattinson, of Whitehaven attempted to overtake another vehicle. As he did so he clipped the rear of that vehicle, and spun into an oncoming Ford Fiesta, with such force that the engine of the Fiesta was flung from the vehicle.

Three members of the same family in the Fiesta were killed instantly, and a fourth died later in hospital.

This single accident represents nearly 20% of the fatalities in Cumbria so far this year.
Perhaps a few more speed cameras along that route, with a significantly lower speed limit might prevent a recurrence? :banghead:

With the level of police traffic patrols in the county, show that drivers under the influence have little to fear. Their chances of being caught will not be raised no matter how many speed cameras are deployed.
