i was driving down the m25 for the first time and my sat nav displayed variable safety camera ahead 70mph but i couldnt see any camera i have never heard of these before. neither me or my girlfriend either spotted any signs saying speed camera ahead. when i was driving back a week later after being on holiday there wasnt many cars on the road, i was driving over 70mph - may be 75 - 80mph i didnt put my satnav on it was about 11pm and knew the way home so didnt need it and forgot about these warnings i past a couple of these large gantries over 70 then there were 2 or 3 displaying 50mph me and the rest of the traffic were traveling faster but i still couldnt see any signs for the cameras. as i couldnt see these cameras i thought they may just monitor speed and were more like mobile cameras that are not always there. the next day i looked these up on the internet and found they were proper speed cameras and that they can also change the speed at which they are set depending what the gantry speeds are displaying.

can anyone help me i am so worried that i may have got a ticket if not worse as i went through not just 1 but a number of these gantries can anyone help me and let me know if i have to worry or not.

thanks matt

sorry about the spelling .

It doesn't sound good.
Can you say what junctions you were between when you passed the gantries showing 50, with you travelling at 70mph?

Were you on the west, south-west side of the M25 (between the M40 and A3 junctions?

You'll know in 14 days if you're (properly registered as) the registered keeper of that car, otherwise you're going to have a stressful 6 months.

I wouldn't worry too much, most M25 gantries don't have cameras and most cameras don't have film (or have run out [assuming they are gatsos, they look like gatsos to me]) or aren't live. Fingers crossed!

thanks for your help steve. i was traveling from the m23 to the m3 using the m25 im not sure what the junction numbers were. the other thing im worring about is that when looking up about these cameras people have written on the internet that the cameras have gone digital not film anymore and that as soon as they take the pic of you speeding it is sent straight to the dvla. Its my car but it is registered in my mums name as she was the person who brought it for me its only a small car 1 litre so i wouldnt do much more than 80 mph because it would be screaming. so if its registered to my mum it could take upto 6 months. apperently if you receive a ticket for speeding that was over 3 weeks ago it no longer stands you have to be notified before 2 and ahalf weeks have passed.

That's at least 2 junctions worth of camera gantries on your route.

Fixed speed cams are indeed going digital, I don't know if those on that part of the M25 are digital. Perhaps someone else can answer that one.

The notice only needs to be first served to the registered keeper in 14 days, that doesn't necessarily mean it must be received by them.
In this case, your mum is the one who should be informed within the 2 weeks (assuming the car is properly registered to her, otherwise there will be a delay of up to 6-ish months), so tell to keep an eye out for you. If she gets nothing in the 2 weeks then it is very likely you are OK; if she does get it and responds accordingly then you'll get yours anytime up to 6-ish months after.

One more thing: have you passed your test within the last 2 years? If so should should tread very carefully.

It is good to see another (fairly) new driver, being scared $hitless of going slightly over the speed limit. It is much better to spend a few weeks worrying if you did or didn't go over the arbitrary limit a bit rather than getting pulled over there and then and having a police officer give you a few words of advice. :x :x

i am very scared i rely on my car so much and would die if i lost it due to speeding. i normally drive all the time with my sat nav on constantly reminding me of camera sites fixed or mobile but its typical just this once when i dont use it this happens. i have never heard of these cameras before it probably dosent help that i learnt to drive on the isel of wight which only has 5 cameras in total with only 2 that have film in at anyone time. i hope i will be ok i feel so stupid for doing this.

I don't know if they have changed, but the M25 cameras were similar to the regular Gatso, but with the radar beam aimed downwards. They were only allowed to be used "singly on a gantry", presumably because having 4-5 radar units operating on the same frequency next to eachother would cause more than a little interference. :)
I believe they are usually in the outside lane, that would seem most profitable, but you never know.

However they may have started using HADECS cameras instead as on the M42 random speed limit, which I believe are radar + digital cameras. I might be wrong there.
