Hello all, The other day I was traveling home from work when I came upon (in front) a Toyota Prius. Nothing wrong with that I suppose but this one was doing under 30 mph on a quite clear 60mph road. Now, HE was obviously saving hoodles of fuel running on his battery........but the 16 other cars behind him in 2nd gear were all burning much more than they should have been. (I have stretched that a bit.....10 maybe)

Added to that, there were at least 10 more unnecessary "overtake" manouvers causing further danger of collision. And this this PIOUS pratt thinks that he's saving the planet?....

How do you know that. Perhaps he drives a Prius at 30mph for the sole reason of reducing his own fuel costs.

Every one has the right to travel everywhere at 30MPH if they wish, just as I have the right to pick my nose or do loud botty burps in a crowded restuarant.
I, however , would do none of the above three because it is rude, antisocial and shows utter contempt for other people.

You can console yourself with the knowledge that if he is in the habit of "Driving on the batteries" he will wear them out in pretty short order and end up with a HUGE repair bill.

(The battreries in a Prius are intended to average out braking and acceleration rather than provide a "Power pack" like the batteries in a true EV such as a milk float. The "battery only" option is only intended to reduce momnetary engine start ups in stop start driving conditions, they are not really intended to provide extended driving. If they are "deep cycled" they wont last long!)

Hopefully, before his battery packs up, he will be done for... " Driving without reasonable consideration for other road users"........ ;-)

There are people on this forum, according to another thread, who will rat-run through a crowded residential area, blowing their horn because they don't like the trees. That is rude, antisocial and shows utter contempt for other people, but you don't seem to disapprove of that.

Once upon a time, not too long ago, I was the fourth car in line (queued up) behind
a Toyota Prius
a Toyota Tundra 5.7L
an old Ford Econoline Van
and I, in my Chevy Caprice

We're all waiting for the Toyota Prius to make a legal right turn on a red light; there's no other traffic impinging on her legal ability to turn right ...
Yet she patiently waits ...

After 10 secs of waiting, a horn sounds. By 15 secs, we're all honking.
She gets out of her Prius and points at the sign (which is an example of the bad signage we have in Long Island):

NO RIGHT ON RED
WHEN PEDESTRIANS ARE PRESENT

Since there was no traffic, I drove up to her, rolled down my window, and said,
"Read the fine print, and stop forcing us to waste our fuel idling. Or did you not know that we use fuel to idle?"
She responded, "oh, sorry."
I left before she got back in the driver's seat - yes, I jumped ahead of the line, and made my right turn. As I looked back, I noted that the last became first, and vice versa, as I was followed by the old Ford van, then the Toyota pickup truck, then the little hybrid. Then the light turned green.

(I know I was wrong, but when I realized that she didn't realize that her intent was to make us wait, I was unwilling to suffer her ignorance.)
