I enjoy driving and try to be safe, but I think that most of the people on the roads are attempting to drive as fast as conditions allow them to in their own judgement. They are thinking about road conditions and are also considering the possibility of being caught. An interesting statistic is that for every 1mph you go above the speed limit, the chances of an accident have been found to increase by 5%. This scares me and my lack of faith in the sense of other people is shaken as they overtake me at 40mph or above on an urban road with a 30mph limit. OH SORRY! THAT WAS YOU WAS IT?

The only illumination that that statistic provides is the depth to which the authorities have sunk in terms of incompetence and propaganda.

lets assume for a minute you're not trolling.

doesn't sound like me, or many people on this site to be honest.
perhaps its you tailgating me cos i'm doing 20mph in a 30mph between parked cars past a school etc etc.

who's to say because i'm only doing 30 i'm doing it safely?

I saw claims like that on a government website some time ago. These figures are collected at camera sites, where drivers of course will slow down, camera sites being subject to the RTTM effect (unlikely to have another accident at exactly the same spot over the next few years – which the partnerships will (and do) claim to be a reduction of accidents at the site thanks to the speed camera).

It’s all in the interpretation. Clever stuff huh?

How do you come to that assumption? 40 in a 30 maybe, but overtaking on single carriageway urban roads is always dangerous as one can never know what hazards will present themselves, hazards which won’t expect the speeding overtaker to be doing such a manoeuvre. I think you should read the posts on this site before you make such statements.
