PR405: Safe Speed welcomes Statistical Reform Bill
news: for immediate release
Announced in today's Queen's Speech is a 'Statistical Reform Bill'. Safe Speed
welcomes the announcement because it has become perfectly clear that official
road safety statistics are dangerously wrong in some areas.
Paul Smith, founder of the Safe Speed road safety campaign
(
www.safespeed.org.uk) said: "Road safety depends on the best possible
statistical information so that precious resources can be allocated for optimal
effect. We welcome the new 'Statistical Reform Bill' in the hope that better
information will lead to better policies that will in turn save lives on our
roads."
"For example, the statistics supporting the use of speed cameras are
dangerously flawed."
"For example, the statistics that purport to show that road safety improvements
are 'on target' are not even credible."
