That's nothing compared to the fines for environmental damage caused by pouring certain products
down the drain!
I currently have to pay £23 a year to register as a waste producer.
Not becase of the metals which we recycle as scrap, but because twice a week (on average) I empty my office waste bin under my desk into a bag, and have it collected in a skip!
This is because that is cheaper than paying my local council to take my bin bags.
I also have to pay the waste company £60 for a duty of care certificate, which basically is to confirm I wont put old flourescent tubes, or empty paint cans in the skip!

Does anyone realise how many litres of paint it takes to fill in a few engraved letters?
You should see the number of flourescent tubes we get through in a week!
Somebody abandoned a BUCKET of fairly new engine oil outside my works. I am now storing it, because the council want to charge me to take it away or dispose of it.
The reason I took it in was that a young child put his hands in it and wiped it on his face - narrowly avoiding getting it in his eyes. His mother came in to see if we had something to clean him up, but if I put it back out in the street where I found it, I could be the one who gets prosecuted!!
Luckily I have a friend who has a Vauxhall Zafira, so he is going to get rid of it - probably in the next 500 miles at the rate they burn oil!!
