Still no valid reasons for this information to be released.

Actually JJ there is even if one is a supporter of cameras for genuine road safety.

A number of cameras are dummy's we know that, a number of cameras are live we no that.

Cameras generate an amout of total fines, we no that, what we do not know is whether some cameras whish are live are generating lots of fines and some that are live are generating few.

This is essential information as if the intention is not to raise revenue but to stop speeding and if all cameras are located at black spots and according to the rules, if some are more effective than others at reducing speeds then a study of why should be done to identify why some are more effective than others.

Consider this announcement:
All of our Police are either on leave, rest days or will be in Kendal on Saturday night

Then answer these questions:
Where do you think the buglars will a) carry out burglaries b) not carry out burglaries?
Where will drivers who may want to drink and drive do so A0Kendal b) anywhere else
etc....etc...

It is for this reason that dummy camera or camera detections are witheld.

It makes sense when you actually think about it doesn't it and most of all it certainly doesn't make sense to make announcements like the one above.

It's not just a simple mono-topic though. I agree that it's not a good idea from your point of view,as it would strongly equate with your example above. However, for thoe who are interested to see if cameras are placed with safety or profit in mind condiser the following...

Posit: Camera 1, placed in a 30mph limit after several, very localised, severe accidents... Camera 2, placed on a long straight downhill dual-carriageway with NSL, after a stretching the "locality" rules to their limit.

In the period in question, Camera 1 has caught 50 people and "recorded" 2 accidents, whereas Camera 2 has caught 12,000 for zero.

If I was a partnership PR person you'd need wild horses to drag an admission of figures like that from me!

1) Burglars carry out their nefarious activities anywhere where and when there isn't an obvious police presence.

2) The police target burglars, and other criminals who are possessed of malice of forethought.
You, on the other hand, target normal members of the public, who are going about their normal business - and who are forced to make a very conscious effort to avoid braking the law, or to avoid being caught should they make a minor slip, often compromising their own and others safety in the process. Big difference.

Again, you're trying to draw a comparison to a wilful, criminal and dangerous activity.

It could be viewed as being a public service announcement, seeing as the vast majority of economically-active adults in the country are drivers, and nearly all of them exceed the limit at times. And most of them need to hang on to their licences in order to continue being economically active.

What have you got to hide, anyway?

Cheers
Peter
