Speed sign scheme for Bolton
By Deborah Linton
PORTABLE speed signs which warn drivers if they are breaking the limit to be introduced across Bolton.
Each of the borough's nine area forums has been given two of the signs - and residents will decide where they are sited..
The scheme, which will cost £55,000, is being funded by the government's Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.
A council spokesman said: "Area forums borough-wide will be implementing driver feedback signs funded by a Neighbourhood Renewal Fund initiative. "The scheme is aimed at giving area forums the opportunity to deal with communities' speed-related concerns. The way the scheme runs in the local area will be up to the forum."
The portable signs cost £4,000 each and flash the speed at which a vehicle is travelling as it passes. They will be moved around a number of different sites of concern within Bolton's various communities.
Westhoughton with Chew Moor Area Forum discussed which sites should take priority in the area tonight.
Local councillor Pat Allen was keen to see the scheme implemented in St John's Road, in Chew Moor, where residents have been fighting for road safety measures to slow down rat-run traffic.
Cllr Allen said: "The signs will be an enormous help because we need to prove that these people are speeding in order to get permanent measures installed.
"These signs cannot be ignored, I hope that they will shame people into taking more care on the road."
However, I gather village vigilantes are at it with regard to Chew Moor per my sisters.
With regard to the VAS signs, which is really what these are and my sister Ju-Ju comes across these on her commute to a school in the Altrincham area finds them very helpful and positive in making drivers "stand to attention"

, I am inclined to applaud and say "way to go" on this one.

Not a waste of cash at all.
I think Pat Allen is against toll tax too. Unless my brother and two sisters in that area are mistaken
