I don't know whether anyone has heard these new adverts on the local radio stations but it goes something like this:

"Pause, take a moment to think about your speed" and then
"If it's your speed its your fault"

What?! For a start I don't understand what they are trying to imply with that last statement, I presume they are they referring to those that drive above the speed limit? To me it seems to be absorbing everyone other then the person driving above the speed limit of any degree of resonsbility. So pedestrains, feel free to step out into moving traffic, it will be the drivers fault. Feel free to pull out of side-roads whenever you feel like it, its the person on the main roads fault if he hits you.

If you want a chuckle try the Lancashire Road Safety Partnerships 'quiz' which can be found on EDIT www.rockfm.co.uk. Oops, sorry. You even get the chance to register your view on why we have safety cameras!

Well I had a go but I didn't win a "prise" [sic]!

The last question was a classic: "What would slow you down?". Nowhere was the answer I wanted, which was "a hazard requiring a lower speed"...

Q: What is the speed limit on residential roads?
A: 30mph

That's odd, I thought it could be be 20, 30, 40, 50, or 60mph depending on if there are signs/streetlights. "Residential road" isn't defined anywhere that I can find.

Absolutely right. I bet we could find a residential NSL dual carriageway too, if we looked hard enough.

And I bet we could also find residential roads where the speed limit signing is so broken that 'no speed limit may be enforced'.

The A580 East Lancashire road is a good example. There's two speed cameras on this road between Manchester and the A580/A58/M6 junction (both in safe places).

After the M6 junction the speed limit drops to 60mph. The speed limit on this section is one of the most inappropriate speed limits I've ever seen. The road is of a motorway standard, is as straight as a runway and has a consistent forward/rear visibility of greater than half a mile.

I would say 100% of motorists drive this section at 70 or higher.

It's a prime target for speed cameras as it would be a fabulous revenue raiser. However they've chosen instead to apply the Vehicle Activated Signs - ironically which activate at ~55mph. Still I'd rather have these than some robbery camera.

I answer all the questions correctly :juggle:

You really did have read the questions now didn't you!!

Example (anwsers only)

A) Get right up his back and shout "Move granddad" or worse.

B) Back off because you don't want to panic him and possibly cause an accident.

C) Get out and push him-as this will probbally double his speed

Don't need to look too hard, I passed a row of bungalows with their drives opening directly onto the A1. Just south of Scotch Corner on the Northbound side.

Just about here I think.

Just got my free CD through the post after answering all the question correctly in thier eyes. I'm offically a safe and competant driver now.

Just thought I'd let you know where all the fine money is going! The cd inlay however is still full of rubbish about speeding in 'teen lingo' with lots of mentions of "your ride".
