On the one hand I'm quite amused about this, as my dad is a bit of a crappy driver, but on the other hand he's family so I should probably help out and check here - on the 2nd febuary or thereabouts he was caught doing 51 at the Black Cat roadworks: are there any technicalities that he should be aware of, aside from PACE etc? (The NIP is not overdue, it went to my mum first as she is the registered keeper of his car - I only found out today otherwise of course I would have recommended a much slower response). I haven't driven there for a while since London to me is down the M11 or possibly A10, and there's very little other reason for me to be there: How are the signs and suchlike?

On the bright side, he has rather changed his attitude about the SCPs. Funny that  (and frankly, what kind of experienced driver is doing that sort of speed in a 40 limit on a dual carrigeway, you know that there are going to be cameras there)

Location: Bedfordshire
I live near to the Black Cat roadworks, and I have to say that it is a typical nasty spot for SCP money making (although he was very unlucky, the talivan is a rare sight at this location).

There are 2 typical Talivan locations:

Northbound: The 40 limit starts well over a mile and a half from the roundabout (where the works are taking place) and was originaly a mix of NSL and 60 (very sharp bend on A1 at Kelpie Marine - many overturned lorry crashes). The Talivan parkes on the left at a gap in the safety barrier, giving the operator a very clear view of all traffic entering the 40 limit long before you will see him. Very rare for traffic at this location to be below 60mph, as everyone slows before the sharp bend before entering the queues for the works. Limited signage for speed cameras, but the 40 is fairly clear (and totally ignored).

Southbound: Again, 40 limit on what was once a 60. This extends for another mile and a half from the actual start of the works. The Talivan parks in a layby before the service station (blocking a bus stop, so buses have to stop half on the A1!). This is a sweeping left-hand bend and you would not see the Talivan until the last second. Typical travelling speed is 60-70, as this is in effect a clear section of wide DC - very very rare to see anyone doing 40. Stupidest spot for a talivan I have ever seen, and I once saw a mondeo lock up and only just recover from a spin in busy traffic after the last minute sighting of the talivan (my estimate was that he was doing about 45-50) - you can always tell it's there by the forest of brake lights and the tyre smoke. Standard fixed speed camera signs, but the limit signs can be a bit confusing (existing 60 signs were not blanked and the temp 40 signs are very close to them - also there are some remaining NSL/60 repeaters in the 40 limit zone)
