I'm looking at doing my advanced driving course...

Preferably with a serving/ex traffic officer (for reasons best known to myself)

I'm in the leeds/bradford/manchester area and would appreciate some advice as to which route to take either the Roada or IaM route.

Advantages/Disadvantages/Differences?

To be honest, mostly tribalism (I'm currently doing ROSPA). The observers quite often tend to be members of both, certainly almost all examiners will examine both ROSPA and IAM.

However, ROSPA does have some advantages, which is one reason I've gone for them. Firstly, they offer a graded test pass - Gold,Silver and Bronze (And bronze is allegedly the level of the IAM pass...). They also inist on you doing the test every 3 years to remain a member, as well as being of allegedly higher standard in the first place. I've also never met a numpty with a good ROSPA grade, met a few with IAM - whether this is because IAM is of lower standard or it's to do with their intake, I'm not sure.

Despite all that -there isn't that much difference really, it's all about the system...
