I saw my first Cheshire Talivan this afternoon (a fairly new scamera partnership).

Was it on a main road through a residential area, where children might have been playing on a Saturday afternoon, or near a hospital or an old folks' home? No, of course not. It was on a wide-open A-road through an industrial estate, with no property frontages at all, which used to be NSL but for a few years now has been a ridiculous 30.

It was extremely obvious, but many drivers, particularly if approaching from the "town" direction, probably wouldn't have realised this road was a 30 in the first place. And does your average middle-aged weekend driver even know what a Talivan looks like? A more blatant revenue-raising exercise is hard to imagine Image

This road certainly shouldn't have a limit lower than 40 (A533 heading from Runcorn towards Northwich through the Whitehouse Industrial Estate)

I was kindly flashed by an oncoming motorist when approaching the site (although I knew I might find a Talivan there) and returned the favour to some other drivers once I had passed it.

The irony is that, 400 yards past the site, the road enters a small village with pub, shop and a scattering of houses. But the limit goes up to 40 for that!

I would also add that I was so annoyed by this sight that for the next ten miles or so I was conscious of my driving standards slipping somewhat from the norm.

Made a trip upto L Buzzard, Beds today, looking for a new bike for spring.

They have reduced the limit on a local road to 40 mph & fixed camera's, could not believe it.

Straight, wide road, easily safe to travel at 60 mph.

It does wind me up

There was an article in the local paper about large number of people complaining about being caught at this site - which really shouldn't be, and doesn't look like, a 30.

One was from a pensioner who had been driving since 1945 and this was his first ever conviction.

I think that the Scamera Partnerships / police / councils responsible for this should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

Just for money. This is not about safety, just money.

I agree that some speed limits are ridiculously low but I wonder how many people caught by the scam van were aware of what the speed limit was?
I can think of the Ingleby Barwick link road before it was connected to the A66 recently, which had a section of two lane dual carriageway in an industrial area with no connecting roads and a 30 limit with no repeater signs on the lamposts or whatever. Absolutely bonkers IMO. It's now been raised to 40 with the opening of the new bit.
