I saw my first Cheshire Talivan this afternoon (a fairly new scamera partnership).
Was it on a main road through a residential area, where children might have been playing on a Saturday afternoon, or near a hospital or an old folks' home? No, of course not. It was on a wide-open A-road through an industrial estate, with no property frontages at all, which used to be NSL but for a few years now has been a ridiculous 30.
It was extremely obvious, but many drivers, particularly if approaching from the "town" direction, probably wouldn't have realised this road was a 30 in the first place. And does your average middle-aged weekend driver even know what a Talivan looks like? A more blatant revenue-raising exercise is hard to imagine
This road certainly shouldn't have a limit lower than 40 (A533 heading from Runcorn towards Northwich through the Whitehouse Industrial Estate)
I was kindly flashed by an oncoming motorist when approaching the site (although I knew I might find a Talivan there) and returned the favour to some other drivers once I had passed it.
The irony is that, 400 yards past the site, the road enters a small village with pub, shop and a scattering of houses. But the limit goes up to 40 for that!
I would also add that I was so annoyed by this sight that for the next ten miles or so I was conscious of my driving standards slipping somewhat from the norm.
