I heard on BBC Radio 2 (Sarah Kennedy) this morning something about a woman who campaigned for a speed camera in her village was caught speeding by the very camera after it had been installed. :roll: I was just getting out of my car when I heard it. I think it was in Essex. I can’t use listen again at work because of network restrictions, but I’ll try and find it in the papers online.

Dixie, this is the listen again link, valid for a week.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/mainfram ... ennedy_tue

Do you know about what time it was.

I steped through, 5 minute increments, but did not find the item.

It was around 6.50 - 7.00 :)

On the audio bit it's at 1:47:20 (give or take 10%+2 :) )

And because I also found it rather amusing, I tracked it down to here:

Caught on camera

Three members of the Women’s Institute who campaigned against cars speeding through their village received speeding fines when a camera was introduced. The ladies from the Herstmonceux Women’s Institute, in East Sussex, have each received a £60 ticket and three points on their licence.

superamp, Actual time at 47:20, program only 1hr 30min long, which is long enough to listen to the Sarah Kennedy drivel.

At about 44minute, did you hear the bit about the Brunstrom blog.

http://www.north-wales.police.uk/nwp/pu ... asp?CID=63

Which reads as follows;

Some of you may have noticed my interest in speeding, particularly if you are a reader of the Daily Mail or the Sun.

I’m determined to change our culture, to make speeding socially unacceptable and so reduce death and injury on our roads.

As part of this, we have introduced short courses for driver caught breaking the law ‘a bit’ - instead of a fine and points, they’re offered the chance to go on a one day training course. It’s a really good idea (going national soon) to persuade people to drive safely, rather than merely punishing them for speeding. These courses are understandably popular, and the evidence is that they work. But sometimes it’s just so hard to get the idea across.

Mrs A was caught breaking the 30mph speed limit on the A547 at Abergele on 10 May 2006. She was offered and accepted a ‘Speed Awareness Course’, which took place on 4 August. The course notes helpfully advise that “sufficient time is allowed for the journey”.

Almost impossible to believe, Mrs A was done for speeding on the A548 at Prestatyn, on her way to the course. At one level this is funny - it certainly made me smile - but at another it most certainly isn’t. It’s dangerous idiots like Mrs A who are still recklessly endangering the lives of others; never forget that we are killing about 3000 people a year on our roads, and speeding is a major cause.

So Mrs A, you will get the points and the fine this time, which you richly deserve. I strongly suggest that you change your behaviour before we get you banned - or far far worse, you kill someone.

(My bold)

Is it?! Funny, I thought that 5% was minor! I must be wrong :lol:

I suppose you could make a rather contrived argument that accidents are not necessarily caused by excessive speed, but injuries are, therefore whilst speed isn't a major factor in accidents it is a major factor in injuries

Oh dear, I've confused myself now! :lol:

What an arrogant and sanctimonious prick he is. How does someone like that come to be promoted so far beyond his level of competence?

I trust that your ladies have now come to realise that speed cameras have nothing to do with improving road safety, as shown by various recent significant reports, but have everything to do with collecting revenue for the police and criminalising perfectly safe drivers who are doing their best to comply with the law.

You may think speed cameras are the answer, but perhaps you will now come to realise that they are catching the wrong people, in this case those who campaigned to get the speed camera. As shown at;
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0, ... _2,00.html

“Caught on camera - Three members of the Women’s Institute who campaigned against cars speeding through their village received speeding fines when a camera was introduced. The ladies from the Herstmonceux Women’s Institute, in East Sussex, have each received a £60 ticket and three points on their licence.”

Dr L

He really is an arse of the highest order!

The former mrs civil engineer met him once during some seminar or other and found him to be very impressive.

Note the word 'former'.

Is there any direct source for the Herstmonceux WI story? It sounds a bit like a story that is passed around.

Only the item in the times, unless I get a response back from the Herstmonceux WI, in which case I will let you know.

I don't know if there might have been anything in a local paper, WI magazine, or local radio and TV. Perhaps someone near there might let us know.
