FIRST BRITON JAILED FOR WEB RAGE
By Mirror.co.uk

A man was jailed today for Britain's first web rage attack on another internet user.

Paul Gibbons, 47, tracked down 43-year-old John Jones after they had traded insults in a chatroom.

Armed with a pickaxe handle, he visited Mr Jones at home and cut his throat, the Old Bailey heard.

Unemployed Gibbons, of Southwark, south London, was sentenced to two-and-a half years for unlawful wounding.

He pleaded guilty last month when the prosecution agreed not to proceed with charges of attempted murder and threats to kill.

After that hearing, police warned internet users not to put personal details from which they could be traced on the web.

The court was told that Gibbons and another man brandishing a machete turned up on the doorstep of Mr Jones' home in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.

Mr Jones went to the front door with a knife, but was disarmed and then attacked by Gibbons.

Mr Jones, whose partner and three children were in the house, opened the door holding a knife for protection

Why? If he didn't know (or presumably expect) this visit, why have a knife? If he did know, or suspect, why open the door at all? Why not call the police instead?
