"Speeding PC caught on camera dashing to pick up Chinese takeaway is let off"

link http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jh ... peed24.xml

Read the full story and then yet again this will explain why many drivers feel scamera partnerships to be about revenue rather then safety

I feel sorry for those in the legal system being tarred with the same brush because of decisions and people like this

:gatso2: The Daily Express are running a similar story. I can't find a link to it though.

"Safety campaigner Paul Smith of Safe Speed said he was amazed the officer had been cleared. He added: "There seems to be a two-speed justice system, one for the police and another for the public."

"This seems to be a disturbing case and it damages the relationship between the police and the public."

A number of questions I would have are:-

1. Are the Police allowed to use a car for private business?
2. Was the Police Officer insured whilst on private business?
3. Does the tax man know that he is allowed to use a company car on private business?

I have use of a company car and I have to satisfy all the above points!

This was covered on Look North last night with the obligatory Brake spokes person.

I had to laugh when she said "driving at these speeds is extremely dangerous". What? 2mph over the prosecution threshold, get a grip.

Statistically speaking he could have omitted the "at these speeds" altogether!

Just a little local knowledge. The A631 Wickersley, that's the major dual carriageway coming out of Rotherham to the M18. Residential at the Rotherham end, but with decent railings at the risky bits and a even a footbridge.

It's the road that Rotherham council has pushed all inbound traffic from the M18 for Mexborough, Swinton, Kilnhurst, Thrybergh, Dalton, Denaby and Ravenfield down by making the B6093 at Bramley an Eastbound only one way road for 25 yards despite the objections of everyone living there -who now face a few miles round trip into the anti-car paradise of Rotherham itself, or the narrow, hedged in Death Star canyon of Dalton Lane to get to the other side of that 25 yards.

Oh, and my opinion on the police officer? The vast majority of the traffic on the A631 runs over the limit too, so he should suffer the same fate as they do.
