They had Milliband on Jeremy Vine today about AGW and 'green taxes'.

I think all the callers thought they were about to be fleeced.

Milliband admitted that UK green taxes couldn't make any difference, but we needed to set an example to the Chinese.

So the proposed Green taxes won't fix global warming according to the government minister responsible. But they need us to suffer to convince the Chinese. Maybe. FFS has the world gone completely mad? Or is it just the Labour Party?

The Labour Party hasn't gone mad... The government needs a huge amount of extra money to fill the massive gap that Brown's incompetence has created in the budget. The majority of the public have been brainwashed into the "Church of Anthropogenic Global Warming" and will therefore be more amenable to new "Green Taxes" than any other.

Cynical, but not mad.

Well the LibDems (undoubtedly) and the Conservatives (if you believe what they say) seem to be trying to outdo them at the moment :(

HA!

A couple of days ago I was going to post a conspiracy theory that all this global warming / CO2 emissions self-flagellation was being promoted by Western governments so that they would get international agreements to force the Chinese and Indian governments to adopt new (and costly) emiisions reducing technologies as a mechanism for reducing their competitiveness. This, in turn, would both increase their manufacturing costs, slow down their rate of industrialisation and get them to spend loads of money with Western firms offering pollution-reducing technologies!

...but I didn't because it sounded so far-fetched and paranoid that you'd all laugh at me!

:hehe:

I don't think our politicians are generally that smart. But they might be having their strings pulled.

Someone ought to listen again to today's JV show with that in mind.
