i had a visit from the BIB today regarding a bit of fun i have with a friend sending each other emails containing "keywords" like semtex, ak47, terrorist etc

they said they were just concerned about the emails!!

OMG Echelon really does exist!

I told them we were only having a laugh and they seemed happy with that

word of advice

encrypt your emails from now on

you'd be better off sending emails with keywords like bonkers, bananas, loopy and nutso.

Surely those wanting to cause real trouble wouldn't be using such words like 5emtex, a47k, teworists.

Those not smart enough probably couldn't spell those correctly anyway....

I forget... is C4 the slightly eccentric TV station, or the high explosive?

Are you serious? If so, it's worth an email to The Register etc, or even a newspaper, they would love to run a story about it. It is well known that most ISPs have "black boxes" installed in their core networks looking at all the traffic, probably monitoring various predefined phrases and logging detailed traffic from certain accounts. Even if you run your own mail services these will pick up the traffic, given they look at the network traffic as a whole.

Spook fodder is the answer :) If everyone includes it in their emails about their desire to do naughty things with explosives then they'd have to start to be more discerning rather than just visiting those that do with no other 'form'.

If this is really true then it seems the only way of getting a policeman to visit at all. Explains why you can never find one when a proper crime has been committed. :x

I once turned up to a millitary base to work on some equiptment with my colleage who is a member of CND. I no longer can get into any millitary bases... That might apply to you now.

fun game but it may impinge on future career choices.

It's bullying on a grand scale.

I also hope you told the BiB to poke their concern for your emails where the sun doesn't shine? I know the Police are getting poor results at gathering relevant evidence but if we are to be getting visits from the 'stormtroopers' based on what a computer states then we should all be concerned.

Using keywords is not an offence, nor is mentioning AK47, semtex etc etc, whether on the telephone or via email. I should imagine however that it was your isp which notified the Police as opposed to an operator of echelon.

Hmmmm

I wonder if I can get a few spammers to change from ripping off literary classics.

Interestingly I can no longer access the forums of a certain online FPS I play from the network on base, presumably because such talk of weapons, tactics and 'jihad' triggers something along the way.

You may have also seen the newspaper reports of them restricting access to eBay!

IF they really are monitoring for keywords like this then surely everyone who plays CounterStrike, and participates on a relevent mailing list, forum or clan site should be getting a visit by now?

The AK47 is one of the best guns in the game, especially if you are playing as a terrorist, funny that. :)

Sounds like we need another "Echelon Day" when half the World inserts those key words into their Emails. The snooper system then crashes due to overloading.

I'm sorry, but is this a joke? I find it extremely unlikely that anyone would bother sending the police out to your house based on a few emails.

I smell pork pies.

I don't think it's a joke, I think rather that the OP is, to use a phrase that sums it up quite well, "barking tonto".

And C5 - does that come with batteries(and according to one Mr Carrot make his Robin look great) , or is it made in France or is it the channel with the wavy lines that half the country can't get without subscribing to some package or other .

i prefer something a little more close range... like the 12 gauge shotgun... or a pistol.

part of the fun (once you've graduated from running round killing each other is buying unexpected/cack weapons and see how you fair)

*cough*semtex*cough*

I hope the police aren't monitoring me for keywords. I recently received the following from an eBay seller:

Quote:
Hi Tom, thanks for the payment. I will post the pot today.

Of course he was referring to one of these, but are the police competent enough to check before they pay a visit :(
