There's a stretch just after the Green Park industrial estate (about 200m past the Madejski Stadium) that has the Gatso lines on both sides of the dual carriageway, but I couldn't see any camera. Does anyone know what the deal with this is? Has it been moved, or are they just hiding them really well now?

I drove down there today. As far as I know, there is no camera. No alerts flagged by RoadAngel™.

However, if you are driving around the Reading area, be aware of the mobile scamera location on the A4 between the Sutton's Seeds roundabout and Shepherd Hill, going up the hill travelling away from Reading.

It could be like the Wessex Way.
They used to have a camera in the middle of the road (dual carriageway) which they could turn around to face either side. They they realised that there is no safe way to get access to it.

Never been a fixed camera on this stretch but Thames Valley's finest have been known to lurk at either end with the radar guns. Duel carriageway, only one turn off on each carriageway, lit, most of the time it is slow moving traffic so why is it only a 40mph?

Well I was doing around 42-43 at about 7.15-7.30am. Any chance they were there? Or do those style of lines indicate only Gatso? It looks like it was a swivelly one as the lines were on both sides but they weren't parallel.

I don't think they ever remove gatso lines after removing a camera. Apparently leaving them there encourages people to slow down or something.

I remember in the early days of cameras, there was a set of such lines on the M53, specifically there was a set on the HS alongside a set in L1, when these ended there was a gap of about a car length followed by a set of lines in L2 and L3.

Knowing only that you had to be within the lines in order to be gotten by the camera, and not knowing that the camera was long gone as it was only there for roadwords, many people would come tanking down the M53 at 3-figure speeds in L2 and perform a sudden change into L1 at this point to avoid being caught.

I must confess to having done this myself, but not at a 3 figure speed. My first car was only capable of doing 85 and took a LONG time to get there, hence reluctance to slow down for these lines. I know better these days.

So, erm, yes. Leaving the lines there makes people drive slower and safer.

The lines were put there soon after the road was completed, which makes a mockery of the blackspots-only approach.
Many morning commuters pretty much ignore the 40mph limit.
Have I seen any accidents down there since the road was built? No.
