Manchester carries a number of posts made to its forum.

The school run can more than double journey times per a survey in the week. Mancunians had strong views on this and the paper publishes some of the e-mail received in its paper.

We knew it already  - kids on holiday equals easy flowing traffic

Here's an idea - ban the school run and stop attacking drivers. ban this and who needs a congestion charge at peak?

Get little Timmy on a bus - or better still walk as I did when at school

C above - How exactly would you ban the school run? Send your ideas to the council who've been trying to work this out. Every year they run "Walk tro School" week and it does not work long term.

Parents love the convenience of the car. They also think it's safer for their kids but ironically it they did not drive to the schools - less morning accidents would occur

I assume that the people who have admitted this about the school run either work part time or work from home and thus miss it. They haven't a clue about what we put up with in a morning. Now get it sorted

It's amazing that there'e a 10 % drop in traffic volume every holiday break. My 12 mile journey takes 70 minutes and less than half an hour when the kids are on holidays. Perhaps we need to re-think school starting and finishing times?

This will be much more effective and popular than stealth taxes - sorry congestion charges ..

Everyone knows their car uses less fuel and pumps our fewer fumes when travelling at sedate speeds Why are these facts "irelevant?"

In any case - people are only trying to get to their jobs so that they can earn their living and pay community charges.

Is the agenda o

f the authorities more sinister>

I suppose schools/councils no longer lay on buses like they used to when I were a lad?

Agressive ticketing of illegally parked vehicles outside schools?

They are right, but do we really want to be campaigning against a particular type of journey.

To me this is as bas as campaigning against a particular type of vehicle (eg. 4x4s). It will be the slippery slope and the next thing they'll want to start taxing us extra for using the Tesco car park at peak periods (evil Shopping Run drivers) or for commuting for work.

Oh wait, they're already doing exactly that aren't they? bugger.

Wait, wait, run that by me again. Wouldn't banning the school run be an attack on drivers?
Or does 'A' simply mean attacks on drivers should be confined to people who use their car in a way that he/she disagrees with.

Agree with you there RP - still i wonder why some parents insist on treking from one end of the town to the other to get their kids into a particular school - and how long it would take for councilors/county councillors/school governors to start getting worried if the school run was quoted as a good excuse for insisting that kids attend the nearest school.
Sort of a reversal of the attack on the school run- instead of banning it -make it unnecessary - and wait for the screams of "it's removing my rights" ---similar to what another element would like happening to drivers , be they on school run or deciding to buy a car not thought suitable.
