The Car Party have not been able to interest the press in their ideas at all, and now the following has appeared on their web site:

http://www.thecarparty.org.uk/Issues.html
Quote:
Stop Imigration and tighten controls.
Withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Ban The Veil from Public Useage.
Give smokers five years to quit then impose a treatment ban from the NHS for smoking related illness.
Increase tobacco tax 2000%
Make insurance compulsory for cyclists.

Oh dear.

Idiots.

Don't they see that, as you can't start a meaningful political party anymore, single issue pressure groups are the only way to go. :)

Not a very libertarian bunch then ;)

Seriously though, I think western democracy really is beginning to fail. It has gone to all intents in the US and we look to be not far behind. Very worrying - what can we do?

- scrap political parties, or failing that, make it illegal to 'require' or 'induce' MPs to vote to the party line. Maybe Parliamentary votes need to be secret and electronic.

- run referendums on ALL imoprtant policy decisions to re-involve the people in the process.

- simplify the process of government and the law as much as possible

- remind politicians that respect has to be earned

banning career politicians would be a good start. IF you want to go into politics then you should have serve your time in real employment (ie non-government) first so that you know what the rest of us have to put up with.

Create a device which is a combination of a lie detector and a taser. Connect such a device to all politicians during speeches.

If there is to be any tax then allow all tax payers a vote on where their tax goes.

It would be nice if the government were completely open and honest about everything, then they might get some respect. At the moment they seem like people who want to take your money and tell you what to do.

"none of the above", if that polls the most votes the candidates cannot stand again and the election is refought.

I agree with this. I strongly disagree with the term "voter apathy" I think that the majority of people who don't vote do it because they think they are ALLl a bunch of wankers!

Agree with both and what I've made bold.

I also support both statements :)
