with all the horror stories recently about people replacing their paper License with a photocard License, just how would you prove your entitlement before you sent of the old paper one, have a witness such as a Policeman or Solicitor look at it, Freinds of mine had the foresite to take a copy of theirs and the DVLA do not accept this as proof of entitlement to drive/ride the classes they have lost so how do you prove it?

I appreciate this is a concern for you mate, but licencing issues are not really a specialty round here. I'd suggest you talk to the fine folks at the DVLA to see what can be done for you.

Well it may not be a speciality but it was certainly worth pointing out for me. I actually had got the form to go from paper licence to card as I have just changed address. I'd filled it in and put it in the envelope ready to send off tomorrow.

I think I'll hold on to my paper licence now until I can get confirmation that I won't lose any of my entitlements.

Get a policeman or a JP or someone similar to witness the fact you have the entitlement.

Failing that, say you lost it, and keep the paper one as a back up in case they screw up.

It does make me laugh, they say you have to prove the entitlement, however, when you pass a test, you have to send the form off to DVLA and how many people keep a photocopy of a test past record from say 10 years ago just in case of DVLA incompetance?

DVLA certainly do screw things up.
When I left the Army in 92, I sent my licence off and got it back without my HGV3 on it, nor my H endorsement.
Took me a while to get my HGV3 back, but my H endorsement is still somewhere in the sausage machine.
