Huge drop in fines from speed cameras
The amount of cash taken in fines by speed cameras in Hertfordshire has more than halved.
In 2004/5 the cameras (like the one pictured above) clawed in £1.24million, but this dropped to £519,616 in 2005/6.
The county has 122 fixed site speed cameras and nine red light cameras while Dacorum has 20 fixed cameras and one red light camera.
Herts Safety Camera Partnership, made up of Herts County Council and the police, said it had no explanation for the drop.
"We can't predict how many people will speed through the camera sites," a county council spokesman said.
"We don't want that figure to be high. The lower that figure is the fewer people have sped through camera sites."
Profits from speed cameras are collected by the Government with the partnership taking its costs.

Made a big loss then. That's a shame. I expect the LA and the Police will have to bail them out. That should win them friends.
