Brilliant.

Can't say I agree with everything he says, but theres no denying the guy is a charismatic live-wire. Perhaps we should send him some of our info.

The way the number is rising at the moment I think the 750,000 mention earlier is going to be a little under.

I wonder if no.10 will just claim that it is made up of loads of false entries.

Unfortunately it would appear that at least some little buggers have signed up false names, but I have absolutely no doubt that the overwhelming majority are bona fide.

If they tried to play that card we could counter-accuse them of filling the petition with ostensibly false names in order to discredit it! Someone earlier pointed out that Tony Bliar's name was on there!

Just passed 751,823 at 14:15 hours today

On its way to the million mark!

Given that you have to enter a name and address it should not be too hard to validate the entries - superficially at least.

The inheritance tax petition required an email verification.

The paranoid may be concerned at revealing tendencies to go against government doctrine though.

It would be quite funny for No. 10 to try and discredit a petition on their OWN website based on their doubts about the validity of some of the signatories.

Remember also that the site is in 'Beta', so they could lose the whole lot and blame it on the testing process.

If they ARE paying attention to it they will be getting worried - over 40,000 new sign-ups since 14.15 today!

It looks increasingly as if the road pricing is going to be used, along with other measures, as a form of public control.
Taken along with measures such as the ID card, massive surveilance, xray cameras in every street and now charging people as, when and where they drive.
Taken with other considerations, such as police concentrating on enforcing such control measures and increasingly failing to either control, or even bother much about crime and terrorism, and it doesn't look good for freedom or human rights.
Looks like the "putsch" is under way....but this time the "public services" are trying to overthrow us !
**************************
The best way to take control over a people and control them
utterly is to take a little of their freedom at a time, to erode
rights by a thousand tiny and almost imperceptible
reductions. In this way the people will not see those rights
and freedoms being removed until past the point at which
these changes cannot be reversed - Adolf Hitler

Are you sure?

If each signature weighed just one gram - about 1/27th ounce - 1 million signatures would weigh a tonne. A million is a big number.

I was referring to sending Mr Hammond some of the info from the campaign for possible inclusion in his column.

I believe Sixy was referring to doing anything to be able to meet Mr Hammond face to face. I understand, from the ladies, that his is something of a 'dish'?

He is just an ordinary bloke. My family spent the week end with the Top Gear crew when the did the 2CV 24 hour race two years ago. I was one of two mechanics on the team. He spent all his time with us in the garage (when he was not either racing or sleeping).

They only showed a few snippets of the race in the end. If you see them I am the guy in the denim cut-offs and the grey hair....lol

A very genuine guy. Not at all like a stereotype celeb.

Not sure if this is relevant or meaningful -

This http://www.psr.keele.ac.uk/area/uk/makediff.htm analysed how many votes make a difference in the general elections.

If a million people sign the petition against road pricing I would think the parties will have to take notice.

Are people who can be bothered to sign the petition more likely to vote than average. Am I getting something wrong here?
