I couldn't see a better place to put this so please go easy on a new joiner to the forum if it should be somewhere else.

I noticed that the average speed enforcement cameras that have just been installed in the roadworks on the A2 face not only the front of vehicles but that some of them also face the flow diretion of traffic and are therefore looking at the rear plates.

I thought that the SPECS (I thinks that's what they are called) cameras only recorded the front number plates.

Not each pair of cameras have one in each direction as mostly they face the front as expected.

Is this new or haven't I been paying attention before?

Probably to serve a contra-flow they have been, or will be, using.

As an update, the ones facing the rear of vehicles are above lane 2, whilst the ones facing the fronts are above lane 3.

That's going to be a strange contraflow ???

Depends what angles the cameras are pointing at, eg.
