I have just bought a laptop with Vista installed but being a halfwit when it comes to computers I am struggling to set up my e-mail access on the new machine and want to know how I transfer my settings, addresses, and copies of saved messages etc.
Apologies if this is really basic but I'm struggling.
Can anyone suggest some software or maybe explain how it's done.

Cheers !

Paul

don't know about vista - only just starting out with it (and it's on my laptop which is 20 miles away!) - but it should have a similar function to XP.....under 'System Tools' there is a 'File and Settings Transfer Wizard' which steps you through the process.

Thank you for the response cabbie.
And true to form for me I am unable to get the 'Files & Settings' program to start on my old desktop and so wondered if you knew of a way I could maybe drag and drop some settings onto a memory key and transfer them to my laptop that way, does it work like that?
I only want to have my email settings the rest can all stay on my desktop.

How far are you away from me? I have a program which allows a USB back to back connection with drag and drop feature.

I'm in Staveley, just off the A591 LA8 postcode

What mail client are you using on the "old" machine?

Erm? Sorry mate I'm useless! what is a client?
I use pop3, Outlook express and Supanet as ISP.
Is that any use?

A "client" is the software you use to send & receive your e-mails, but you have already told me what I need to know.

You would be far better off using MS Outlook if you can find a copy, as every single last bit of information is all held in one file (unlike Outlook Distress that stores everything all over the place).

Anyhow, a little freeware utility called OEBackup will do what you want
