That is the headline. (clicky pics)

The same claims of cut accidents rates in blackspots from the London Safety Camera Partnership.

It also claims that there are a 1000 roads in London that fit the DfT criteria for having a safety camera.

Here is the question. How do I go about finding out the incidents that are used to justify the sites that have been proposed? Also how do I find out the the history of these sites? I see a blatant abuse of RTTM here.

One of the sites (Cam 23) is literally 200 yards from where I live and I do not recall any serious accidents at that junction. The road is a down hill curve from the right to the junction and the flat when past it. IMO it would be better served by a mini roundabout than a camera.

Make a Freedom of Information request, asking for the recorded causes of accidents used to qualify the existing sites, and the subsequent accident history.

However, bear in mind that rules have been relaxed recently.
Try and involve your local media via their letters pages etc.

Croydon is an absolute nightmare for riding - probably because everyone's too busy staring at their speedos due to the ridiculous number of cameras around the place.

"02/04/2007 As of today, long-awaited changes to the way in which speed cameras can be sited and an end to the current system of self-funding cameras through fines come into force across the UK. One of the main changes is to the rules that guided where a fixed camera could be installed.Previously, at least four people have to be killed or seriously injured on a specific stretch of road over a period of three years before a fixed camera installation was allowed The new rules mean a greater range of crashes can be considered over a five year period, giving a more accurate picture of risk"

what new croydon bypass? You're not thinking of the new Coulsdon bypass are you? That's a nice new road with a 30 limit. Not a DC though.
Site 16 is Brighton road, just like the picture on the first page and that short section already has 2 or 3 cameras on it.
