I have never, ever been troubled by vehicles breaking the speed limit. Ever. I have however been enormously worried by vehicles driving too close to me, or overtaking towards me

add in turning in front of you or pulling out of junctions thinking "it's only a bike so must be doing 2mph" and you've pretty much summed it up.

I think the very fact that Roger seeks to evaluate and learn for the experience proves he is a seriously competent motorist.

A complacent oaf refuses to learn.

A skilled and intelligent person will try to analyse, evaluate and learn from a perceived or suspected fault.

An illiterate and complacent oaf will not. Therein lies the difference - and I know which type I wish to belong to and it is not the one adhered to by our trolls who have perhaps '"'ology degrees " but not necessarily "realIST degrees"

Roger .. you have my  and  as a person who actually thinks, evaluates and learns and chalks to experience here.

I would rather a driving population of Rogers than one of complacent Jub Jubs if truth he known

Perhaps this forum should be renamed -"the confessional " - where we sinners proclaim our sins and the users cast stones /wheat/chaff.

:rotfl:

Our priest do go a but pale over what we confess..:rotfl:
here

But you are correct .. these people chuck stones.. but if you read some of their other stuff,, no wonder they have so many near misses.

Complacency kills. Sorry if touch raw nerve here. But a real driver like Roer evaluate und seek to correct a perceived error und seek advice from peers.

A complacent fool does not do so. Sooner or later he KILLS .. but at a legal limilt  und does not feature perhaps in the stats which get bandied around

Thank you WC - but from the confessional -we all learn - and absolution is given by father IG .(meant in joke---you're advice and analysis ,to me is always welcome and stored for future use)

Seriously - old saying " problem shared is problem halved" ---in this case problem shared is problem that should stick in minds of readers - so that next time we pass line of cars , we lok closely ,for signs, that one is not about to cross lanes-so that we can have options ready .

A problem shared is a problem two people have.

Seriously though, I have been driving long distances (as per usual) the last couple of days, and am petrified that some dozy tw@t is gonna pull into me when I'm 90% past him!

Whilst you can never be *totally* certain, I still maintain the golden rule is observe (on and off of course) for tens of seconds each vehicle you are going to overtake. With the exception of the above, I think I can honestly say that, despite literally thousands of overtakes in a week on my daily commute, this is the first one that has (almost!) caught me out in many years. Others have pulled out in front of me of course, some at point blank range. However, I've been wise to them thanks to ... something - couldn't tell you what offhand - on all previous occasions. Mixtures of weaving, gaining on others.. always a clue there somewhere.

I don't mean to break the rules here but there does seem to be a lot of heat in this topic. It's upsetting for a dweeb like me so I'd like to help take the sting out with these anchient words of Chinese wisdom...

He who doesn't know and doesn't know he doesn't know is a fool - shun him.
He who doesn't know and knows he doesn't know can be taught - teach him.
He who knows and doesn't know he knows is asleep - wake him.
He who knows and knows he knows is a prophet - follow him. His name is Paul :D

Okay, I added the bit at the end :-)
