Do we really need the reading of threads to be spoilt by someone using

Image as an avatar?

Almost 30% of the screen space is lost and the text runs off the screen to the right.

Frankly, I can't be arsed to follow threads such as those.

Which specific thread is this? As a moderator I might be able to do something about it.

Unfortunately due to an ongoing technical problem, it isn't possible to upload avatars to the site (which would allow size restrictions), so the only option is for people to link to external images.

Why can't I upload a small Avatar PeterE? I've read the help files which says the admin might have a good reason for holding back stuff but I can do it on Pepipoo so why not here?

I know it's not a big deal but I notice some, who have only recently joined have done it whereas I can't.

Was it something I said? :grumpy: :)

You will be branded a threat to society by going over a speed limit where it is safe to do so, and suffer the consequences of your actions in a way criminals do not, more so than someone who is a real threat to our society.

Paul has spent some time looking at this, but obviously it's not at the top of his priority list.

It's nothing personal :P

I had problems loading mine back in after a site update. The way to get around this is to load it into "Photobucket" then link to the URL (this is an option on your profile ...Link to off-site Avatar:)

I have never seen that avitar. Might it be that your isp or work have blocked that site where the image is stored and it is a default for image not found by your isp?

use firefox broswer & adblock extension

right click > adblock

block images by url or whole sites for adfarms

no more stupid, oversized, annoying, flashing avaters, sigs or evan ads.

this sites not too bad for it I find, generally you find a direct link- the bigger an image someone needs the less, or less relevance they have to say.

(no deliberate offence to anyone in particluar with oversized pics... i can't see them and I'm thinking more of other forums anyway.)

wonderfull.
