I've just realised that i've been driving for 27 years, had 3 accidents (all non fault), and all 3 were in the last 6 years and at least partly caused by dangerous junctions.
2 happened at junctions where there was a light controlled left filter lane, but the lane did not give priority over oncoming right turning traffic and had a give way line where it met the crossroad. In both cases i was rear ended when i stopped at the give way line because of crossing traffic.
Granted that it was legally the fault of the driver behind, the fact is that they couldnt see the give way lines and would not have expected i may need to stop.
the 3rd accident was leaving a motorway slip road. I stopped at lights, went on green, and was rammed by a crossing driver who had gone through red lights at 40plus. Entirely her fault, but the reason i didnt see her coming was that the council had never trimmed the bushes to my right, so the junction was blind for me.
I'm not excusing bad drivers, just saying that confusing or badly designed junctions dont help. Has anyone ever researched this?
