Don't worry about it - get on with life and enjoy it!

If you start getting concerned about grey hairs (and other signs of increasing Anno Domini, like the Mysteriously Shrinking Suits) you'll end up like a male version of Victoria Beckham, who increasingly looks like something manufactured by Mattel. My hair's almost white, but I don't give a toss; my brother ( a youthful 50) has been bald since his mid-20s and he just gets on with enjoying life too. Youth has its good points, but middle age, experience and a sense of fun are much better. Mutton dressed as lamb (male or female) is simply laughable.

Stop worrying and start embarrassing your children!

I reckon the '55 was an excellent vintage, Paul!

(You'll now tell me you were born in '54, I bet  )

Nope. I'm a '55er too. And you're right - an excellent vintage.

You share my birthday! (Well, as far as day/month are concerned anyway....) Personally I think 8/8 is fairly desirable as they go, and people don't really have an excuse for forgetting. According to this site Roger Federer was born on exactly the same day as me, but AFAIK we're not twins (which is certainly reflected in my sporting ability level).

(Note to self: do not reveal your real name on the Internet now that your DOB is "out there"....)

Strewth! And there was me thinking that a pretty much full head of ~1% grey hair was bad for my age (they stick out like a sore thumb when the rest of your hair's almost black...oh well).

I agree entirely with what you say though, with the caveat that anyone unfortunate enough to have "abnormal" problems (e.g. a bald woman, whether through cancer or naturally) is probably better off doing something about it.

What I do think people have every right to complain about is dodgy eyesight. Touch wood I've been lucky, but children should not routinely be short/long-sighted any more than they've routinely got poor hearing IMHO. People should be able to expect to see without correction until their 50s. Eyes are poorly-functioning and unreliable compared to the rest of the body. I realise that our full-colour, incredibly detailed eyesight is a wonderful, amazing and complicated thing, but if humans were manufactured artificially, I'd consider sight to be the most unreliable "module". It must have been a real PITA for our ancestors (although at least they didn't live long or need to read much).

I only mentioned I was three years behind you - but come to think of it,
YOU would look well for your age too if you lost the beard! In fact it would take years off you!
I guess it saves wearing a scarfe in the Highland Winters! :D

49 later this month and I think I'm going through the male menopause. I've got a fast motorbike so now I'm just looking for a loose woman :)

Isn't a man as old as the woman he feels?

I think I've got underpants older than some of you guys :)

I'm a day older than Michael Jackson (Never thought I'd end up being more handsome)

Handy for storing extra food supplies too.

...and yes I have one too even if it is not quite as magnificent as Paul's.

Brilliant post, especially the confessions about your knickers!
Perhaps you should put them on eBay, they might be worth something as antiques. My old undies have a protection order on them, they house several endangered species :)

Oh, and at 49 I'm older than you, but younger than Paul.
And I think that Kate Bush is gorgeous!

All men know you can wear underpants four times; inside out and back to front.

Don't most men throw them at the wall and if they stick it's time to wash them?

My girlfriend wears thongs, or floss for the anus as it's also known. The other day she asked me to kiss her where it smells, so I took her to Liverpool :)

Kate's wearing well aint she? That Paul's so fussy
