Don't you find the 6000K a bit harsh for domestic lighting? Something in the 3500K range is softer in the home and, IMO, is more "normal" looking.

I would like to try the 6000k for daytime use, like when I'm at work for example. Come evening I'll revert to the incandescents, dimming them down to 1/4 power later on; I find that soft glow to be quite relaxing.

Absolutely not, although it is surprising at first.

'Normal'? Possibly.

However, daylight is much nicer (IMO) once you're over the surprise effect. I'd say that I have been compromising due to the (colour temperature) limitations of tungsten all my life. I've also been working on my escape from the compromise for years. I had those blue coated 'craft' bulbs in the lounge for a good decade. Perhaps it's just me, but I simply CANNOT understand the 3500K/2600K compact flourescents. I hate them.

I suppose the problem with 6000K bulbs in the home is it's too similar to what you get in an office.

Who wants to be reminded of that when you get home?

Have you tried one of those 'sunrise' alarms by any chance Smeggy? If so what's your opinion?

I haven't. If they are what I think they are: are they not enough to properly light a lounge?

The alarms turn a lamp on before your set alarm time slowly brightening to full output just before the alarm goes off. Meant to help you wake up apparently, the lamps are just 100w tungsten.

I noticed Osram make some 8000K triphosphor tubes btw.
