To those night owls listening to Talkradio (last night or wed night ) --it was amazing that a high percentage of callers were more concerned about gangs of yobs in the street/on corners than terrorists .

[quote="Ziltro"]They could get rid of 'terrorists' easily.
'Terrorists' only exist if people are frightened of them.
Don't be scared and they have no control.

Sorry but that is tripe, your saying terrorists wouldnt exist if people aren't scared of them, so essentially what your saying is:

"Hey Bin Laden im not scared of you" now Bin Laden what? goes n tops himself

Sorry but Terrorists will and are doing what the hell they want, there are legacys of terrorists in Afghanny places so they always have someone to follow on, sorry but the idea of them stopping because people aren't scared of them is rediculous!

Yes, but your chances of being killed or injured in a terrorist attack are much much smaller than your chances of being hit by a bus, but you don't see the government wanting to hold bus drivers for 28 days without charge.

All these draconian measures the government are bringing out, destroying our civil liberties and our way of life, that is what the terrorists want, and they are getting it purely because people are being afraid of a threat which is reality is quite tiny.

If we just ignore them and carry on as we are (like we did with the IRA for many years), then they lose.

If you are scared of them then they control you.
If you are not scared of them then they are causing no 'terror' so are not 'terrorists', so 'terrorists' only exist if you are scared of them. ;)

Actually I agree with the sentiments you express here.

However, if we accept that the real threat of a terrorist attack does not warrant such extreme measures, we also have to accept that the security services may not latch onto a developing plot early enough to prevent it from being enacted.
The media however will criticise whichever way the pendulum swings but they are undisputed gold medallists in the deployment of 20:20 hindsight after something has happened. I am growing to despise the media more and more for the shit-stirring it engages in in order to sell its grubby wares. The Madelaine McCann tale is the worst example of vile journalistic practice where, one day things are definately X and then the next, with no attempt at joined up thinking, things are now Y. Bastards.

Totally agree with you there. Every national newspaper in this country is now a total joke to me, even the ones that used to be considered slightly more sophisticated. And BBC news is going the same way more and more.

They are not the bogeyman mate; only exist if you believe in them

People who want to blow up London buses and underground trains still exist, whether you choose to cause them terrorists or not.

Not succumbing to terrorism is another thing, and that is what you seem to be talking about.

And that is why the yob culture is expanding - people and those in control of policies fail to realise that they can be controlled by the public acting en mass in the common good and forcing by vote those elected to do so . Trouble is that the average citizen has forgotten how to use that vote or persuade the elected that the voter rules --not the other way round.
