I've had it already. Is there more than one strain and how long are you immune to getting it again? Him indoors has just come down with it (luckily he is over at a mate's house) so I am quarantining him over there at least until tomorrow. I don't feel 100% at the moment but that may just be paranoia!

Anyone else had it? Think I got off lightly with it as I was confined to the big white phone for less than 2 hours one lunchtime and could keep down cups of tea by 6pm the same day. I didn't actually throw up but I don't think I will need colonic irrigation anytime soon if you get my drift :D I was well knackered for several days afterwards and spent most of boxing day fast asleep which was a welcome reprieve from the abominable televisual entertainment which was proffered.

If you are in contact with the unclean are there any good ways of avoiding picking it up?

As far as I am aware, you CAN get it again, as the initial immunity quickly decays, and the virus comes in slightly varying forms.

Good hygiene is the answer to not catching it.

It can be airborne if you are in close proximity to a sufferer, but skin, contaminated surfaces and standing water are the main agents of transmission.

Ensure that you wash hands frequently, dont allow children to "rummage" in bags of unwrapped sweets, wipe down surfaces in the kitchen with diluted washing soda or Jeyes fluid - oh alright, if you want to splash out, get one of those anti-bacterial sprays - Wilkinsons, Aldi and Lidl all do them without ripping you off!

Finally, allow crockery etc to air dry on the rack, dont use tea towels which have hung around for a day or so while damp.
If you do catch the bug, stay away from crowds - work places, etc. until at least 24 hours AFTER you have got rid of the symptoms.

I had a bad episode of norovirus over Christmas - first the vomiting, then a brief respite, then the diarrhoea :yuck:

I didn't feel anywhere near well for a week afterwards, and then last Sunday night had another episode of frequent visits to the toilet (although I put this down to bowel irritation resulting from excessive chocolate consumption).

I can well believe someone could get a second norovirus infection :(

Might suggest an anti bacterial washing up liquid, anti bacterial hand wash , and close scrutiny /regularly light bleaching of dishcloths.

All good ideas. Also, after you are feeling a bit better, live yoghurt as it helps your gut get back to normal.

I had this on New Year's Day. Though it did not last very long, just from 1pm until about 8pm.

Sounds incredibly unpleasant and I'm keeping everything crossed.

The thing is, if you can get it again, and it's so good at spreading itself...who's to say that it won't just keep infecting people ad nauseam (excuse the pun)? :yikes: Is it just luck that we've had no "permanent vomiting bug pandemics" until now or is there, as I hope, some biological reason?
