About 40 years ago, I was knocked off my bike by a couple of teen schmucks. I was on the Melton Road between Leicester and Thurmaston (Fosseway, then known as the A46). There I was, pedalling along the cycle track when I was shoulder charged from behind by another, older boy who rode up behind me. I was knocked clean off the bike and went flying through the air, landing on the grass strip which separated the cycle track and pavement. My only injury was a bruised little finger on my left hand - could have been worse. I got up, but couldn't see my bike at first. It had ended up in the road. I had to go and grab it before it was run over. The chain was off, and the handle bars were twisted round. I fixed those problems at the scene and carried on. I never did find out who did it. If alive, the person would be about 55 now.

:x

But bullies have existed in each generation. These were older, but very stupid boys who picked on a younger one..

But ist interesting you say since 1997 :scratchchin:

If only we got them to admit..

:scratchchin: I think very much the truth - especially in the light that the Home Secretary not only admits eating a kebab but also admits not daring to walk out anywhere as "far too dangerous" :scratchchin:

I do not think it hatred of cyclists. I think the yobby gang culture has increased and that there ist a type out there who attack for for warped pleasure.

In addition to my unfortunate experience in the 1960s, twice in the past 12 months I have been pelted with eggs while out riding my bike - in both cases by a carload of teen schmucks. Depending where you get hit, it can be quite painful. Some cyclists could even fall off their bikes because of a thing like this.

Verbal abuse is also not uncommon. I had a carload of "yoots" yell abuse at me, as if I was doing something wrong. The fact that they already had the window rolled down as they drew alongside me told me it was preplanned. This was confirmed when my cyclist friend who was riding some 150 yards ahead of me got identical treatment.

The worst motorists for meting out verbal abuse are the white van man types. Builders, drivers of flat bed vehicles with a wheelbarrow in the back, vans carrying ladders are the worst. Children riding the school bus can be cheeky little bastids, especially as they're more likely to throw missiles.

there have a few instances of people on the triathlon forum i use being slapped from behind from a moving car... sad really.

the only saving grace was the chap who already has spinal problems and hence wears a motorbike spine protector under his top when riding, apperently the bony crunch was most satisfying.

Think IG already posted up Jessika's tale of woe with a come-uppance for the idiots concerned.

She's a Headteacher of a 11-18 Comp in the Merseyside area. She might drive to school most days but she does keep a fold-up in her car and a couple of her bicycles at the School. She does have a ride out in lunch times and with the kids she teaches. School was in bother when she was placed there as part of a troubleshoot team. After storming it up the charts to a "decent-ish standing" - it's now on the "parental desireable" list  - with the unfortunate knock-on effect of the dreaded mumpty in the 4x4. :yikes:

Jess says she cringes when she sees them attempting to park and she ain't quite so popular when she starts "directin' traffic in chuck out hours"

I mention this to place the setting.

Couple of years ago now.. Jess rides out in her lunch break to local supermarket shoppe. On way back .. she notes a 4x4 waiting to turn right. Jess carries on cycling past some parked cars.. as one does. She's on the road.. right of way etc.

Mumpty has to wait  When Mumpty has turned. into main road... honk of horn. Jess notes a parent and waves.

Kids in rear do not recognise her as she has helmet.. cool glasses.. lycra.. gloves. the full gear  .. and wind down window.. hurl a can at her and shout :censored: at her. Wildy :neko: would describe as "mostest rudey!"

Jess arrived at the school about 5 minutes after the offending vehicle did.. as on bike. she had a "short cut" and had a very "interesting interview with parent and children" soon afterwards

In fairness.. woman signed up to her "Care Car.. Driver Care" evening classes after this  (She does try to teach some COAST there ..)

Diesel .. un the latter case. complain to the Headteacher. Threaten to write to press. Headteachers want bad PR as much as any woman wants a rash on her face  or a bloke wants undies which ride up and not support the family jewels per Paxo's class rant  (Now I know the real reason for the "Paxo jaw drop" :rotfl:)

I wish I knew why folk behave as they do. The holier than thou CM miltitants do not help either. Thankfully we live in Lakes rural. We do not have such yobby cults in the same way. This does not mean we do not have problems. We do.. but perhaps not as vile in real comparison with the 'burbs.. YET!

Maybe it is to do with pee cee stupidity... not taking responsibiltity for our kids.. the single parent .. freeby cult. ... the idea that life is not complete unless drunk or drugged senseless.. blame culture.. the idea that everyone else owes the less fortunate a living. (OK.. I will support those who are in real need.. but some just play the system here.)

Maybe it has to do with our isolate self centred lifestyles..as well and how we choose to travel has nothing to do with this in reality as demands and lack of reason and live together in harmony seem to prove .. time after time.
