i was working with my mate and while he i dropped him off for him to do a job i had to wait for him until he came back so i just parked up on double yellows or a parking bay and when i saw a traffic warden i drove of and found another road to park up and visa versa, my question is can or do parking cameras exist and can they catch you out aswell as traffic wardens im just curious

yes, some cctv is trained on double yellows in London - in London you are never out of the Big Brother's line of sight, so be careful what you're doing.

i stand to be corrected but my understanding is that on the public streets in London a parking fine has to be served by a warden. They are trying to change this so as to make camera information valid but this is not law yet.

From what comes up on PePiPoo they seem to be using some of their spy caeras for enforcing parking restrictions. Might not be double yellow lines yet, but I'm sure they will want to soon.
Best to avoid london.

they have the cars with cameras on top which go round now without a warden having to get out I think, i'm pretty sure they use the cameras on yellow boxes and red routes - you may well be right about double yellows, but if they can't yet - they will soon.

Yeah, they park on the double yellows themselves while enforcing other laws.
And stop in box junctions...

By swapping locations every time a warden appears you could in theory get 30 camera offences from 30 yellow lies rather than 1 ticket

I'm going to correct you Gizmo, I know of somebody who got a 'parking' fine through the post, freeze frame CCTV picture and all, its was for pparking in front of gates.

Not on a yellow so it might have not been a diffrerent type of fine, but they were fined for parking.

It's as times like this I'm glad I moved back to Dorset!

It could have been a private company? Or was it definitely a council? Neither can actually issue a "fine", councils issue "penalty charges" and private companies issue "invoices" and almost always you owe them nothing.


There's a reason I left Poole. They are doing this whole "allow flats without enough parking spaces to be built, install restrictions, make money from people who have to be there" thing.

It was the council.

The person was blocking an access gate for at least 45 minutes, queuing up in the council offices to get a parking dispensation for another car perversly!

If I do go to London.. use train. Easier.


I find Paris a lot pleasanter

But wherever I am.. I head for mult-storeys or Park n Rides

Easier to keep legal and "safe" if you know what I mean.

By all means discuss.. but to you and hjeg2.. please be aware that a bloke we all rather liked and respected has died. He left a legacy. his forum for debate and his ideas which are of merit and "peer reviewed indirectly as holding water" if you like.

Please be aware of this and also be aware that COAST must also be peer reviewed as it is the marking criteria for "errant motorists" and the PROOF of this has been posted umpteen times on this and other car/biker enthusiast sites


Please accept that COAST applies to each and every road user. Along with responsibility and duty of care which applies to all out there anyway. If you refuse to accept this responsibility for your own actions - then you are the same as the chav out for what his oinking greedy snout can snuffle up from the trough

Not unreasonable. Not nasty.. anti cycling.. walking.. jogging horse-riding.. but realistic in the real worlde out here and not the lah-lah land of academic ivory towers which have no concept of reality

Part of my problem is that I don't post during the day so can't really debate with people, just snipe from the sidelines.

I still think the Safe Speed campaign's call for the scrapping of all speed cameras is totally heinous though!

Even though folks genuinely believe it would improve road safety?

No, that's as ridiculous as thinking they improve road safety (imo), they need to be removed with a new focus on improving driving ability through better training and putting cops back on the road looking out for real driving threats and road nusances (such as drink drivers, drivers destracted by kids, drivers going too slow as well as too fast for conditions etc). I believe the SS campaign has always said removal along with other measures is the way to go. It has to start somewhere though

If there were no speed cameras you wouldn't have the constant fear of getting done for speeding, because police would (probably/normally) only stop you for doing something dangerous...?
