It's an excellent site Paul.

I can particularly relate to the bit about blame as I used to regularly exaccerbate potentially dangerous situations by stubbornly refusing to yield to someone elses bad/aggresive/thoughtless/whatever driving. Doing so was, in my niaive view, a display of weakness and, as I invariably believed the other driver to be at fault, I thought that it would be he/she who would be blamed if we did crash.
A really stupid POV, particularly as we might both have wound up dead

I've just picked up this nugget from the Skill Driver web site that applies very much to speed limits:

Quote:
we should never become "lost without rules".

There are specific reasons for venturing beyond rule-dependence:

to make your own decisions, and take responsibility for what you do
to move focus to your thinking, rather than concentrating on physical actions
to see driving as a constant flow, not a series of separate events
to use the car's controls naturally, as an extension of your body.

In essence, this simply means acquiring the skills to think for yourself about what is safe. It has never been adequate to say, "Just stick to the rules, and you'll be alright".

We do not excel at anything through rules alone.

Some rules are definitely a useful frame to build your skills around, but they can never be your expertise - and especially not a substitute for it.

Thanks for your comments guys. Good to see you finding useful points.

Please, to everyone, give LOTS of feedback as you go through the site - either here for discussion or via Feedback on the site. On points that connect well, such as those already posted, and those that could be improved or should be discussed.

We're trying something quite radical with this site, and trying to make a big difference in an area that is traditionally strapped with conventional thinking. Best content will give it the best chance !!!

And don't forget to Tell A Friend - tell them all, get the message out there.

Thanks - keep it coming. :D
