Anyone like to hazard a guess as to the purpose of the secondary grey camera seen in this photo? Is it an independent flash unit or something like that?

hmmm second thread i've seen with one of these in..... hard to find on the gatso site but it looks alot like their number plate recognition system.

i'm thinking perhaps they offer this as a way to upgrade to gato's ... so the plate can be read.. and the offence paperwork automated.. without having to wait and go unload the camera & inspect the photos (not sure if those old stylee gatsos are digital or not).

There are systems available to scan and OCR the photos, which are in use already. Even with film the whole system is automated. As far as I know, Gatso cameras like the one in that housing are all film based.

......I find that a smear of Vaseline works very well.

Cameras could never work in the USA. Too many people with guns.

Much too crude for the British taste. A light smear of Vaseline, surreptitiously applied with the end of a walking stick will curtail the proceedings - at least for that particular roll of film....no-one notices, no noise, no permanent damage to enrage the politically correct.
