:gatso2: According to this report, more could be done to cut the number of road deaths.

Would there ever be a time when we/they (whoever "they" are) say, "the roads are now safe enough" or will people not rest untill nobody so much as chips a fingure nail?

Is it possible for nobody get get hurt?

Is it possible for nobody to get hurt with out stopping most people from having the opportunity to go where they want when they want?

* just edited my dodgy typing...

I've often wondered that myself! I don't think any politician will ever have the balls to say "yup, I think that's about as good as we're going to get without massive enforcement problems and extra legislation"! Especially when faced with the hysteria characteristic of the many (and vocal) pressure groups.

It's a pity, because if they did, I'd probably vote for them!

One of the biggest problems is that it will always be possible to get SOME improvement. The problem is that nobody looks at the "bigger picture". We might save (say) another hundred road deaths a year by introducing measures that add to the stress of daily life to such an extent that we get another TWO hundred suicides! The problem is linking the suicides directly with the stress caused by ever more draconian motoring legislation and the enforcement thereof.
