Apparently the new study says govt figures for saving lives using cameras are flawed.

Apart from those who have been taken in by the "speed kills" rubbish, it's generally the feeling that speed cameras cause more problems than they solve. The nearest I have come to being smashed up recently was when the woman in front (who had been doing a rather erratic 45 in 50 areas, reducing to 30 in 40 areas) saw this camera, and immediately slammed on the brakes. She passed the camera at about 30. The speed limit was 50 at this point. The sign warning of the camera even showed the speed limit! Incidentally this was the A523 east of Leek, one of many roads in the area that has had its limit reduced from NSL to 50 in recent years.

The point is, how many accidents do speed cameras cause?

Eminent people can spout all they want about these satanic machines, but they are here to stay. They are purely revenue generators - and revenue is something that this wastrel government is in dire need of. We are stuck with them, along with 'green taxes' due to the Nu Labia ethos of 'splash out - the Proles will always cough up'.

"Green" .. we have one religious extremism on the one hand which wish to take us back to lifestyle more in tune with that when the Virgin Mary was a toddler

On the other .. we have "green extremism" which seek to take us back to days before Mary was even born Like the caveman era.. which mean live without candles und eat berries. On the other hand .. men hunted meat. Wimmin gathered berries. I think we may revert und evolve .. to find the next worlde to be a Green eco-warrior woman's one I feel ill at the thought! I am a thinking man's type of womankind.. at home with blokey stuff .. yet enjoy the bestest sassiest things about being a woman in our modern worlde .. which mean I get the cream as well as the fish und the mouse

But back to topic .. automation ist not cutting death und disaster. Real policeare tested und true.. They DO!

Interesting thing is that the DFT and their followers have been continuing to spout the same discredited (by their own commissioned research) rubbish since the report was published.

Somewhat off topic but I have to say that you have summed my feelings up perfectly!

Whenever I go abroad, and when I have lived abroad, I can honestly say I have never ever heard the people of that country so pi$$ed off with their own that they feel compelled to leave in the way 'we' do here.

The indigenous population of England are leaving like rats from a sinking ship!

In my own life I have seen a complete change in this country where, if I think back, it is now almost beyond recognition. In another 10 or 20 years I shouldn't be surprised if my daughter will be saying the same too.

Even if you accept the official figures, the speed camera "Experiment" is probabally the most costly (when you consider the full socio-ecoonomic costs involved) casualty reduction program in human history!

The numbers (even the official ones) are so small that the argumant that is is all about "Safety" simply do not hold water!

It is about keeping the plebs under controll and reminding us all about who is in charge!

(It is also a way of financing the employment of a couple of hundred thousand "Useless eaters" in the scamera industry while conning us into believing that they havent raised taxes to do so!)

Amid the political machinations now under way in the Nu Labia camp and the rising pressure to unseat Grim Gordon, I feel that they are suddenly realising that we do not, in fact, zip up at the back and we, the unwashed masses, are the coal that fires their gravy train.
Fixed scameras are here to stay, but the Talivans are getting quite rare in my neck of the woods (there are about seven 'haunts' near me and I haven't seen one in place for about six weeks.) Sufficient profit is being skimmed from fuel duty at the moment to sate the thirst of the Treasury, allowing some slack to be cut in scamera tax, this done in the hope that no-one notices the climb-down.
Some effing hope!

Dustys 3 tennants of Law!

#1 secure the interests of the ruling classes (In this case, expand the public sector in the hope that public sector workers are unlikly to vote in a government that will not maintain the stus quo and therefore their jobs)

#2 secure the revenue stream (self evident, but should be noted that Scameras arent "Profitable" as such and most of the revenue generated goes to pay for the, (likly otherwise unemployable), public sector "Useless eaters" who are employed in the scamera industry thus contributing towards #1 above.)

#3 Keep the plebs in their place! (Like in 1984 where "Helecopters continually hover over the cities" etc etc etc! We make Laws! You must obay!)

Odd association occurred in my brain.

Most drivers speed but the government uses increasingly draconian measures to stop it.

According to a recent radio discussion I heard correct spelling and grammar is no longer going to be required in exams as most children cannot be bothered to do it.

Which deserves a serious answer - I'm not so sure it has lasted so long Ben.

Off the top of my head, the rulers of old lasted very much longer.

I was fascinated with a series of programs aired on The History Channel some time ago where, on a Roman theme, it was shown both the rulers and the regime lasted way beyond its 'sell by' date.




I could not agree more! But sadly, all we can do, (or what we are likely to do), is sit back and watch it happen.. again.. and again..
