A sad day.

OK so he was 83 years young!

An unforgettable actor though. I have enjoyed all of his films .. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.. The Sting.. Cool Hand Luke (I think his best.. ) .. Hustlers.. Colour of Money.. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof ..

Then his charity work. A kindred spirit then.

But let's raise a glass to the real soul of the late Paul Newman ..

his skills behind the wheel.. his love of motor racing ... and his campaign to try to instil pride in driving skills

A kindred spirit then. A loss to the world perhaps - but one legacy and legend - as most of those films are timeless classics anyway.

RIP Paul Newman. I am going to now watch my DVD of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid .. which I still think timeless in plot.. acting . quality. .. followed by The Sting .. and Cool Hand Luke .. which I think did get him one of his many Oscar nominations. A fine actor then. And in his private life - came across in each press story - as a decent fun loving normal bloke.. strong marriage.. family man with a normal down to earth take on life.

But ... my own Dad MET Paul Newman... on a race track here in the UK before his landmark Butch Cassidy film which catapulted him into legend. A remote "proxy" connection as I was a kid at the time. But ... for my own father - this was a significant memory for his own life's memorable joys. So . I mourn his passing just a little more than I did Frank Sinatra whose singing was "magic" to me... and others whose talents were iconic to my formative and even adult years.

Paul Newman .. epitomised decency. An icon.

I have enjoyed each one of his films. I do not feel "jealous" because my wife watched the films, read articles about him and his lifestyle .. and purred

Wildy on hearing this sad news in comment to me wrote:
"sassy cool bloke with eyes und a bum to dies for"

Wimmin

I have enjoyed watching the films.. reading about his lifestyle.. admiring his take on life which was somewhat unusual reading for an iconic "star".

I will do as the late Paul Newman desired. I will remember him by donating to a cause close to his heart.. and I will endeavour to savour his love of the motor car and striving to perfect driver skills. I think I honour the memory of a true iconic spirit of the free world in that way.
